Seriously though, Nuclear power, it's time.  Let's do it.

It should definitely be in the mix.  Germany for one would be happier if they had kept their plants going.   But those politicians that Putin bribed stayed bribed.

Going to a state recently ravaged by a Hurricane and then suggesting the elimination of FEMA is.... not what I would call looking like a real POTUS.

He also talked about adding Canada as a 51st state again.

Consumer sentiment fell for the first time in six months, edging down 4% from December. While assessments of personal finances inched up for the fifth consecutive month, all other index components pulled back. Indeed, sentiment declines were broad based and seen across incomes, wealth, and age groups. Buying conditions for durables softened but remained about 30% better than six months ago amid persistent views that purchasing now would avoid future price increases. Despite reporting stronger incomes this month, concerns about unemployment rose; about 47% of consumers expect unemployment to rise in the year ahead, the highest since the pandemic recession. January’s data closed on Inauguration Day, and consumers of all political leanings will continue to refine their views as Trump’s policies are clarified and implemented.

Year-ahead inflation expectations soared from 2.8% last month to 3.3% this month. The current reading is the highest since May 2024 and is above the 2.3-3.0% range seen in the two years prior to the pandemic. Long-run inflation expectations rose from 3.0% last month to 3.2% this month, the same reading seen in November 2024. For both the short and long run, inflation expectations rose across income and educational groups. Concerns over the future trajectory of inflation were visible throughout the interviews and were tied to beliefs about anticipated policies like tariffs. Consumers continued to spontaneously express motives for buying-in-advance to avoid future price increases, and robust auto and retail sales data suggest that consumers are indeed acting on these views.

All this just makes the tech bros look more divorced from reality...

Where’s the money in nuclear for Trump? After all you can’t drill for it.

the MAGA moron has made us less safe in just his first 3 days, eliminating a Biden rule that ICE should prioritize deporting immigrants charged with felonies. That was part of the record number of immigrants deported by the US in 2024 - 271,000.

Now the MAGA moron will have ICE wasting time deporting a guy with a speeding ticket instead of people charged with violent crimes. So f****** stupid.

Not only that but they’re going after people charged with a crime, not convicted. Well, ****, man, don’t they think being undocumented itself a crime? And if they have only to be charged and not convicted, well, then it’s self fulfilling, isn’t it?

A federal judge on Friday barred Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes from entering the U.S. Capitol or Washington, D.C., without prior approval from the court.
The order follows Rhodes’s unannounced visit to Congress this week after his early release from prison following the commutation of his sentence by President Donald Trump for seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

I didn't realize that being anti-harassment and in favor of safety and occupational health qualified for "woke" under this new administration

We did a trip to Joshua Tree and flew into Phoenix and drove to California.   There are miles and miles and miles of solar panel farms along that route.  It was extremely impressive.   I have no idea whether the locals there hate the or not.

My understanding is the main issue with those solar farms in California near the Arizona and Nevada is that the infrastructure is not in place to move enough electricity into the Valley and other areas of California. So what's happening a lot of nearby rural areas are getting cheap electricity. I'm not sure whether these are private utility projects or public state or federal projects.

Same with Trump's comments on turning on the "splcket" to water resources. The water is there, the infrastructure isn't.  Between environmental issues, water rights squabbles, Northern California's objections to moving water to the south, cost over runs, etc, there is no magic bullet. Despite Trump's bluster.

We all know what’s gonna happen, right? States that are “very nice” to Trump will get federal help, and states that are not “very nice” to Trump will be told to go pound sand.

If we want to be totally honest, Los Angeles finds itself in the predicament that it's in because (in large part) it's really not an area where a major metropolis should have been built. But that's the fault of the likes of Fred Eaton and Wililam Mulholland, not contemporary politicians.

My guess is that Donald Trump probably has no idea who William Mulholland was nor understands anything about hydrology, and views this more using the tragedy of others for his own gain.

Trump just sounds like everyone's grandfather, uncle, father in law, cousin. You know the one "who knows everything" but not really. Or better yet the "fans" you see on many fan sites who know exactly how to fix a team because they finished fourth in a fantasy league 10 years ago.

(Fortunately most of the sports guys currently here are smarter than that)

Trump's fascination with AI has been interesting to watch, particularly for a guy that has long run as a guy preoccupied (whether genuine or not) on the onshoring of American jobs.

I thought the right hated big tech and was mistrustful of it? It wasn't that long ago that the right was talking about tech as big brother and a real threat to freedom and speech. I guess since the right owns most of big tech now that it's all good.
