NYLion Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) Just popping in to say... Screw Ben Johnson. That's it, that's all 😉 And I'll gladly take the two 3rds for AG. I liked AG more than most but we need the beans more with the impending cap crunch hitting the Lions the year after next. Edited 9 hours ago by NYLion Quote

Definitely not a bum, did a great job here, but he choked in this game as badly as Goff. 14 carries for Gibbs is coaching malpractice and having Jamo throw a pass when you're 10 down was idiotic. Not to mention throwing on 3rd and short when Goff fumbled in the red zone early in the game when they were set to go up 14-3 when Gibbs was tearing up their defense. It was a poorly called game, almost as if his mind was elsewhere. Hmmm.. 1 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Goff is your $53 million QB. You got to be able to trust him. They had what they wanted on that 3rd and 1 play. St Brown got matched up on the LB but slipped and fell so Goff had to hold on to the ball. Even if they didn't convert, they were going for it on 4th down anyways. When your down 17 with less than 10 minutes in the game, you can't run. 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I’ve been unimpressed with how lots in the fanbase are taking Ben’s move. It’s like people feel he owes them something and shouldn’t take a job within the division. Add to it the silly after the fact conspiracy theories popping up like he called Stumblebum to impress the Bears management or that he wasn’t focused on the playoff game. We all hate the Bears and he is now our enemy but he didn’t owe anybody here anything. He wanted to be a head coach and that position here is taken. Chicago paid him a ridiculous amount of money and also has the best young QB out of any of the open jobs. It was a no brainer. It would’ve been as stupid for him to pass it up as the people that feel personally stabbed in the back are. Thank you to Ben. He was fantastic here and will be missed. That said, **** The Bears and I hope that he loses every game and gets fired after 2 years . Quote
buddha Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Looks like glenn is going to the jets. the league is feasting on the lions' corpse before its even cold. bears fans are already talking themselves into their division title next year. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Given how much he is getting paid, he probably has more power than Poles and can choose his new GM next year. 1 Quote

Against a team that is one of the worst in the league against the run and in a game when your RB is tearing up the defense, it was a terrible idea to stray from what was working. Ben being too cutesy as he tended to get. A lot of times it worked but in the playoffs, you need to stick with what works when it works and he went away from it. Quote

Corpse? lol. The Lions have one of the best rosters in the league and arguably the best GM/head coach combo. They'll be just fine without Ben and AG. Quote
buddha Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago poles is the gm who didnt take jalen carter and hasnt really addressed their oline outside of one first round pick (who has been "ok"), and a bunch of fifth and sixth rounders/free agent scrap heap guys. instead he took a punter in round 4 last year and a punt returner (since waived) in round 3 his first year. cant wait to see which kicker gets picked with one of their two second round selections this time around. and then traded for the corpse of keenan allen and sogned deandre swift to a big contract. i remain very unimpressed with anything he's done other than swindling the equally stupid carolina panthers into trading for bryce young. the idea that they can build a lions/eagles-esque oline in one offseason is laughable. 2 Quote

Don’t forget he traded what amounted to a late first for Chase Claypool. 1 Quote

Miami forfeited their 1st for tampering so it ended up being the 32nd overall pick. That is where "what amounted to" part comes in. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago If Brunell leaves, the Lions should poach Blough. He's assistant QB coach and has been getting a lot of praise as a future play caller. Make him QB coach and pass game coordinator if you promote Engstrand to offensive coordinator. Quote

My biggest issue with Ben isn't that he went to the Bears, can't fault a man for doing what's best for him and his family. It's that he jumped to the Bears immediately after a devastating team loss and, even worse, already had his coaching staff assembled which leads me to believe that he wasn't focused on the task at hand with the Lions. You see Glenn with the Jets and he's just assembling his staff, I can respect that more. Regardless, I wish no ill will on the man. He did a really good job here but I just don't like the way it went down and the timing of it. Just my opinion Quote

It was most likely his agent (who also reps Dan Campbell) who helped gather the staff. Turns out unlike the hundreds of different agents for players, most coaches are repped by a small group of the same agents. They often pair their clients together or use their relationship with one of the other agents. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43439332/nfl-coaching-carousel-2025-agents-package-deals-consultants-goodell-concern Quote

Kerby Joseph and Melifonwu were 3rd round comp picks. (The Melifonwu pick came from the Rams via the Stafford trade) 2 Quote
