Thompson is one of the most disruptive off ball defenders in the league.

If only he could hit some shots he'd be a star but in a league where shot making from long range is essential it's a problem having him out there in clutch moments. Love his game otherwise.

luka light.

imagine if we had wemby too like we should have had.

Speaking of Luka.  He has now missed too many games and is ineligible for post season awards.  Helps Cade odds of making all nba.

This is kind of an off topic argument but since Cade doesn't shoot many free throws I figured it has some relevancy. I know many people like to look at how many points you score by FGA to measure a player's efficiency but one thing that always bothered me about that is that while free throws don't count as field goal attempts they still count towards possessions.

So whether you attempt a FG or shoot 2 free throws either way you are contributing to your team's possession. To simplify it if a guy doesn't get fouled once but shoots 10 FG and makes 5 for 10 points he generated a point per possession that he shot. OTOH if a guy shoots 10 times and gets fouled every time and makes 8 of 10 free throws he will have generated 8 points on the 10 possessions he shot. But going by the metrics they will see he scored 8 points without a FGA so he will be deemed more efficient even though he actually netted his team less points per possession that ended with him.

The Pistons were 4-36 through 40 last year. Now at 21-19, 17 game improvement. Stating the obvious that Trajan and JB have done an amazing job transforming this team.

After a very long decade it's finally great to be a Detroit sports fan - all of the teams might soon be contending

Interesting. OTOH, on the other side of the ledger, shooting free throws should depress the opponent's points per possession on the following possession since FTs generally don't lead to many long rebounds and/or fast breaks - at least for a team that likes to run. Never seen a number about that though....

Yeah I'm sure there are other benefits to drawing fouls but just speaking from a vague offensive standout it always bothered me when somebody would talk about how efficient a scorer is when they just look at their total points and FGA. If you didn't include FTs then yeah that's a great way to see how efficient they are but factoring in free throws it doesn't tell the whole story.

For arguments sake lets say none of the free throws are and 1s or 3 pointers, if a guy shoots 20 free throws then that still means he was responsible for 10 possessions.

What are the .44 and .96 Multipliers?

.44 multiplier has to be taken into account because not all free throws take up a possession. Technical foul shots along with “AND 1″s do not, while there might be more than two free throws on one possession. Research has determined that about 44% of all free throws take up possessions. The .96 multiplier accounts for team offensive rebounds in situations where a missed shot is tipped out of bounds by a defensive player, continuing the possession without an offensive rebound being credited.

Heck of a win and a fun game! I feel like I've been saying that a lot lately.

There are a lot of positive things to say about this game, from Cade's performance to Stew and Ausar's defense to Beasley's shooting.

There are also some negatives...does Duren realize that the team is better when he's on the bench, because at this point I think everyone else must. I was screaming for JB to put Stew back in the game in the 4th. Luckily Duren fixed the problem himself by fouling out for us.

Duren is still young but his development seems stalled/painfully slow, and you don't really want that to be true between the ages of 19 and 21.
