was listening to wwp today with them gushing about hownthe wings were in great position to take advantage of the cap increase.

1) not if they adhere to "no one gets a bigger % than larkin"; and 

2) every other team gets the same bump.

all this means is salary goes up.  the biggest advantage for the wings is that raymond and seider are on majorly team friendly deals right now.  as wwp pointed out, raymond might be the most underpaid player in hockey not on an eclt other than makar.

all this means is that marner and ratanan are going to get 14-15 per year.

I'm hoping the Wings are trying to sign Johansson to a contract extension in season, I would love to lock him into a cheaper long term deal before he plays 20+ minutes a night too much!

Wings-Kraken are tied at 1 midway through the 1st. With Tampa and Boston winning and Florida losing earlier tonight, there is a chance for the Wings to pull within 6 points of the division lead with a win and for the top 6 teams in the Atlantic to be separated by only 7 points.

A 3-2 lead after 2, with the Wings looking pretty good. They are outshooting Seattle 21-12.

Not over yet. Shane Wright makes it 4-3. Wright, after dropping to 4th overall in the 2022 draft, is finally cracking the Seattle lineup fulltime. 10G 17A 27Pts in 52 games this season.

Can’t complain about a sweep on the road trip.  It does bear watching though that we are starting to rack up overtime wins.  And my recollection from last year is that regulation wins vs overtime wins is one of the tiebreakers.

i think a lot of us owe steve yzerman an apology (except for the pro scouting department, they still suck).  making the playoffs this year puts them ahead of schedule, imo.  seider/raymond shouldnt even be in their primes yet...

and lucas raymond might need a new agent.

but before we (me) get ahead of ourselves, they were headed for the playoffs last year and one dylan larkin injury and the whole thing collapsed.  its going to be tough sledding down the stretch.  we'll see if they do anything at the deadline.

pretty sure they have the best record in hockey since mcclellan took over.

first of all, its not enough money.  cozens makes $7 mil.  he has 10 goals in 53 games.  just like andrew copp.

now, he had one season where he scored 30.  he's only 23.  in a sense he fits their timeline as a #2 center.  but if i'm making that kind of deal and taking on that kind of money, i dont know if i'm giving up a first.

otoh, someone else might.  and buffalo isnt giving him up without getting a first in return.  if stevie thinks he is a true #2 center, then a #1 plus berggren and velenonis a steal.

No to Dylan Cozens.  He's absolutely awful on defense and doesn't put up enough points to make up for it.  He just doesn't seem like a Yzerman type center to me.

In my mind he's one of those dudes with all the tools, but not the toolbox, so I'm skeptical he'd turn it around in Detroit but stranger things have happened.  I also don't watch a ton of Buffalo games, but I've just been unimpressed with his hockey IQ when it comes to his own zone.  If his contract wasn't so awful I would be way more willing to try, but his lack of offense after getting his deal makes it pretty ugly right now.  Maybe he can rediscover whatever he did to get paid on another team.
