Hongbit Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Yzerman’s not trading a first for a could be. It’s got be someone that’s proven themselves in the league and can plug right into the top 6. Quote

Sure, gladly. I have seen enough under Mclelland that even if the Wings tail off a bit the rest of the way and miss the playoffs this season, I now feel they have the makings of a good team. Kasper and Johansson are two nice adds that were question marks before the new coach. Would have been interesting to see where the team would be if Mclelland had been hired at Thanksgiving. I was ready to fire Lalonde during last year’s March collapse. Quote

Shinzaki Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Elmer is a different guy...not trying to be as much a high skill guy as a power forward. Ras seems a bit more effective playing with him. Quote
buddha Posted February 6 Posted February 6 lucas raymond currently sits 19th in the nhl in points. at 22, he is the youngest player in the top 49 players in points. and he's 19th! Quote

Thank God the Wings got lottery luck by losing it in 2020 to fall to 4th. Almost certainly would have picked consensus #1 Lafreniere, who wouldn’t even go top 5 in a re-draft. Stutzle and Raymond, in whichever order, are the top two of that draft. 1 Quote
slothfacekilla Posted February 6 Posted February 6 FWIW I have read rumblings that the Wings' board was Stutzle 1 then Raymond 2 so they could have shocked everyone if they won the lottery! I have no idea how true that is though as it didn't come from anyone in the Wings' org directly so could have just been revisionist stuff after Lafreniere took a while to get going. Quote
buddha Posted February 7 Posted February 7 im kind of mad the wings only have one more game before this two week 4 nations stuff kicks off. i want nhl hockey! 1 Quote
buddha Posted February 7 Posted February 7 report that the wings, canadiens, and leafs are still scouting dylan cozens. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Tonight is the biggest game for the Red Wings in what, 7, 8 years? Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Sorry, misread the schedule. yes, tomorrow. They could lose 11-0 and make the playoffs, but this is a statement game. Quote

Let's try one last play here: Say Buffalo and Stevie agree on draft compensation... let's just say for example it's a 3rd upgradeable to a 2nd based on playing time (average minutes TOI > 18 = draft pick upgrade...). Is there any interest in giving Cozens a 2nd chance shot with McLellan & the Wings? Does the upgradeable 3rd seem equitable? Veleno + Berggren + salary filler (Petry or Holl?) also match up? As you might be able to tell... I have an interest in the Wings getting him and "rehabilitating" him... I'd like to see him start on the 3rd line with Rasmussen and Soderblom... or squeeze in Tarasenko there if necessary... A lot of offense... may need to be protected on defense some... But room for growth... Quote

But room for growth... I think there is too much interest in Cozens for the Sabres to give him up for anything less than a 1st. I’d give up next year’s 1st, sure, as shouldn’t be any higher than 15th or so overall. Still a bit of risk attached to giving up this year’s 1st, so no to that. And yeah, throw in Berggren, Veleno, whatever, they’re pretty much dime a dozen. But I think someone else will beat that and I don’t expect the Wings to outbid them. slothfacekilla Posted February 7 Posted February 7 No question I would welcome a Cozens reclamation try if the cost was cheap and Buffalo retained some money. If Sabres are desperate to get rid of the contract for some reason a combo of Compher + Veleno + mid round pick would be fine with me. But not looking to do much more than that myself. Quote

But room for growth... as noted above half the league is interested. so it will have to be a first. rumors - take them for what theyre worth - say that buffalo wants a first and a young, ready prospect. that means cozens for the wings' first plus kasper or edvinsson plus salary filler, likely copp. i wouldnt do either of those deals but i dont really know a ton about cozens. a cautionary tale might be mittelstadt last year. traded straight up for byram. byram has been good and middlestadt has been garbage. so much so that colorado is now looking to move him. otoh, sam reinhat and jack eichel turned out ok once they got out of saber hell. apparently the islanders are shopping noah dobson too. Quote
buddha Posted February 7 Posted February 7 and cozens is locked up for the next five years or so for $7 million. plus a nmc that kicks into effect in a couple years. you'd be betting a lot that he's the guy from two years ago and not the guy from the other four seasons where he's been average to bad. again, it could just be saber stink. or it could be he's overrated. buddha Posted February 7 Posted February 7 since mcclellan took over larkin has been a top 5 forward in hockey. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I forgot about the other little wrinkle tomorrow. The Red Wings owe Mr. Kucherov for that dirty play on Ras at the end of the last game. If that hadn't been at the end of the game I would have expected someone from the Wings to have a bit of a chat with Mr. Kucherov, but as much as winning would be the best revenge, they owe him a "conversation" early in tomorrow's game. You can't let guys do that to your mates. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I was hoping Shine would still be with the Wings when they played the Lightning next. Outside of Chiarot and maybe Seider after a whistle I can't see anyone doing anything. It would be fun to watch Soderblom ragdoll him. Quote
