I'm sure the Wings wouldn't mind moving him, but I'd be surprised to get a useful starter back - more likely some kind of  pick.

Hell I’d take a 6th rounder or a bag of pucks if it could be done without retention.

It seems like we would have to attach a pick or something of added value to get rid of Tarasenko. I wouldn't think some team is going to acquire him just in the hopes that a change of scenery would make him a different player.

So we've reached the February break, at roughly the 2/3 mark of the season. Tampa at 5 points up on the Wings and the Leafs at 7 points up on the Wings are not completely out of reach if the Wings stay hot, but I'd say catching either is highly unlikely. Nor does it really matter, IMO - 3rd place in the Atlantic to face a 2nd place team isn't going to be much tougher than facing a division winner from a wildcard spot. At the other end, Montreal and Pittsburgh and Philly are all 6 points back of Detroit and the Wings have a game or games in hand on all 3. So let's dismiss them for now, unless one of them rises up after the break and shows otherwise.

That leaves, to simplify matters, 6 teams for 2 spots. No reason the Wings can't make the playoffs. They're as good as any of those teams and of the other 5 I can see only the Rangers possibly going on a tear. The Bruins have been poor this year.

tarasenko has actually been playing better lately, lol.

after last year's collapse, i still feel like this team is one larkin injury away from the bottom again.

A talking head on TV last night said the Wings have the toughest remaining schedule in the NHL.

The rest of the NHL has the toughest schedule remaining.    They have to face The Toddfather

But I feel like this long break interrupted the flow too much (even though they lost the last one).     Same for the Pistons, they were on a roll.

I’ve seen that too.  But I’ve looked though it and seems to be a pretty normal schedule until it gets to the end when they finish with 5 of 6 games on the road.

would you trade for seth jones?  probably wouldnt cost much.  he's still a good player.  his contract is massive but will not be as bad with the cap increasing.  he would stabilize the second pair with edvinsson.

otoh, he's 30.  his contract is 9.5 for the next five years.

i dont see stevie taking on that contract.  he's worked hard to clear a lot of cap space to coincide with the primes of seider/raymond, do you think seth jones is a piece he sees as something to take them over the top?  and he makes more than larkin right now.

i dont see it.

I think the guy mentioned the winning % of the teams we face. Hardest in the league.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Is there any team more boring in the NHL than the Minnesota Wild?

No notable history

No stars

Even when they signed a couple big free agents (Parise & Suter) they both went flat

No long or exciting playoff runs

Not really known for anything.

The North Stars made some history, they had some moments.

But who comes to mind when you think of the Minnesota Wild.   I instantly think of coach Jacques Lemaire and his style was the most boring of all.

And that's a hockey market.

Imagine the blandness of the post Zetterberg/Datsyuk years with the Wings.  Imagine that was your entire history.

Yeesh.

Good post. For all that state contributes at the high school and college level, it’s been pretty much dud at the NHL level. The Wild especially, as you noted. But even the North Stars, hard to think of anything memorable about them except the bright green jerseys and the Dino Ciccarelli-led run to the final one year.
