I've programmed spreadsheets that write SQL code to query a database, and also have a special computer that runs a program that queries a SQL Server database. 1 Quote

I have shared SAS/SQL code back and forth with programmers in government (mostly CDC). They use SQL and they have pretty sophisticated programmers. 1 Quote
pfife Posted February 12 Posted February 12 The best is that the gov has many git repos full of sql that are totally public. Quote

The only diff is that PROC SQL allows you to leverage SAS functions. That u can use the calculated syntax is awesome, in other languages i have to make a subquery to use a field calculated in the query in the same query. 1 Quote

What I mean is I am more comfotable with data steps than proc sql. I can do anything in a data step pretty easily. I have to think more when I do Proc SQL, although there are definitely things that are easier to do in SQL and it's more efficient in terms of processing time. Quote

I like proc sql when i can use it to roll stuff up a level,or eliminate a sort before a merge or data step with a set by. 1 Quote
