Welcome to how the rest of the workforce feels. Lol

I have never once felt like they feel right now. And I'd bet, deep down, you know you haven't either

This was a direct impact for us, the staff has come out to the local Forest Preserve for events my son and I have been to. And I have gone for runs out there from time to time.

People take this stuff for granted... What a shame

I’ve worked for the same company for 13 years in the private sector and never got an email like that. If you’re having to ask your employees to provide a list of what they do, you’re not a good manager.

DOGE is such a scam.  It’s so obvious how this will play out.

Trillions of dollars in government jobs will be eliminated and outsourced to the private sector.  They will end up paying out even more money and costing far more than they claimed to have saved by eliminating government waste.  Elon and Trump will hand select which organizations get these no bid deals.  In many cases, brand new companies will be formed by Trumps pals and gifted a multi billion dollar industry just like Putin did with his oligarch pals.

Have you ever been sent an email like that in your career?

How would you feel if you were? Would you want to remain with that company or leave?

I sure have. I worked for Magna Styer in the late 90’s We were developing a roots based super charger for GM. They sent an email stating if you are not at least a Process Engineer you will be let go. We got a WARN notice and a 3 weeks severance as a COBRA carry over. My daughter was 2 and on a special asthma treatment. I had to sell my 69 Camaro and cash out my 401K to make ends meet. Guess what? Nooobody cared except my wife and I. We figured it out and opened my own business. Been really happy ever since.

I personally haven't experienced that, but I appreciate your experience.

Given your own personal experiences, and how you likely felt when you received that email, why do you take so much joy in others receiving that email in this instance?

FWIW, my previous supervisor (a bit of a charicature of a micromanager) did request weekly reports. His primary justification is it helps us come performance review time and provides some transparency into what we are working on so info could be forwarded on to somebody who could help: also kinda gives a bit of a boost to show you actually did something in weeks where it doesn't feel that way... I didn't mind doing it.

Given the sensitive nature of some of the things I work on, there's a definite "need to know" applicability here, which is why the current guidance from my supervisor is "do not reply."

If I got that I would be hitting “report phish”. I suspect that address will be getting a lot of emails over the next few days.

But seriously you and all your fellow ****ing idiots could use some education on how hard working and thankless the jobs a supermajority of federal employees are. **** you and anybody parroting this line.

Anybody who supports this is an idiot.  But it just falls in line with their casual racism and bigotry.  The polite thing to say would be that they are ignorant.  But that’s too kind. That’s the absence of the knowledge. No… in this case it’s just stupidity. These are the people who ate dirt as kids for fun and burned insects and spied on their sisters when they got dressed.  When they walk by you can smell the **** on them because they think using toilet paper is “woke”.

For the record, I don't expect a response here... He'll tuck his tail and run as always. Would genuinely love to be proven wrong, but it ain't gonna happen

You don't know ****.  I worked along side government employees for 11 years.  Most of them work hard and very few of them are getting wealthy.  Why all the hate?  Why are you celebrating the loss of jobs?  You sound like an asshole.

I have noticed that when employees are asked to keep track of what they do and how much time they spend on each task, it means someone is about to get laid off.

It's typical MAGA.  They have had bad experiences in their lives, so they want others to have to suffer too.

It also happens occasionally, in my case, to determine how much time we're spending on tasks so that we know if the per diem costs for the departments we support need to be adjusted.

And they often blame people who a, took the time and initiative to become educated and get a government job (often for less money), b, have benefits that they wish they had and think if they don't have them nobody should, and c, are people of color, women, or members of other groups.

That is the reason that they give for doing it, but in my experience it usually results in somebody getting layed off.  In the last case, the one who got laid off was the manager who told us to do it.

One theory i had about the DOD shakeup is that Elon wants to end the F35 program.  My buddy said he’s never going to be able to go up against the fighter mafia.

Management styles and methods are all over the map in big businesses. Some places are a bitch to work for, some aren't. But it's certainly NOT unusual for management in an organization to not understand who is providing the value added in their org. At one point UM spent a 7 figure consulting contract with the firm that used to be Arthur Anderson. They came around and did survey and time studies. A lot of people got their task time audited. The conclusion they came up with was  to centralize purchasing across the all the research departments (with lower cost clerks of course). A couple of hundred people were given notice they would be let go. Of course the faculty was asleep at the wheel all the time this was going on or they probably could have saved a lot of trauma. In any case, once the plan was announced, all the people that knew better informed TPTB that commissioned the study that department purchasers were basically all specialists in various arcane technologies and supply chains and  if you tried to centralize purchasing, what you would end up with would be faculty members (the most expensive employees in the org) spending all their time hand-holding purchasers who had no clue what they were trying to buy. Plan was called off, money was wasted, but it did grease the skids for at least one high ranking administrator's exit. Stupid episode but indicative of the fact that you even if you pay a lot of money supposedly to analyze what your org is doing, it's no substitute for management that understands its org in the first place.
