So, he would vote yes on a second vote?

He's already called for another vote.  I personally think he's one of the more standup guys in congress, despite having political differences with him.  He's a progressive left wing guy that represents Silicon Valley, so of course he's going to have ties with them.  He's generally very open to explaining his views on a subject/vote.  Has reminded me of Amash in that sense.

Weird world we live in, 4 years ago having ties with the large tech companies probably was a plus for his base, now it means he's part of the swamp.

this was supposed to be last night.  I read only a little bit about this elsewhere.

I'll apologize in advance for my cynicism and I really like Schatz but this is kinda just performative.  Maybe it has rallying value, that could be the case, but  my understanding is there was going to be 30 hours of debate scheduled anyways, so they just used up the allotted time.   At best this seemingly just delays him by 30 hours but it doesn't seem like they did that if it was already scheduled time.

Does anyone have an idea of how Doge actually works?   There appears to be no rhyme or reason for what they are doing and absolutely no oversight.   They popped up overnight and it appears they are just allowed to do whatever they want.  Ready, Fire, Aim.

Who makes the decisions on what is and isn’t waste?

Are there specific parameters or criteria to meet to justify a spend?

Is there a panel or process to determine waste or is Elon or one of tech bros making the call?

Do they interview the department heads to ask them why they’ve made that spend?

Are there lawyers involved to determine if they can legally break a specific contract or do they not care about that and the potential of future lawsuits.

So many more but these are just off the top of my head.

This is the crux, and why what they are doing is illegal. But it's an official act, so no consequences.

From what I can tell the answer to all questions is Elon Musk. He was sold the country by Trump (who doesn't own it) for $225 Million.

They are a legal constitutionally mandated org filled with highly trained, credentialed, and cleared individuals who have received a mandate from Congress to pursue acts that might otherwise violate the Anti-Deficiency Act, the Privacy Act, HIPPA, and various US law on national security violations.

Oh wait, no not at all.

There doesn't appear to be any "aim" involved. They are apparently carpet bombing the entire federal government.

Thank you, Citizens United.

Remember when Obama called out the SC during his SOTU about this and Alito mouthed "that's not true".  It caused a fuss. First for him supposedly breaking tradition by going after them.  Then for supposedly being wrong.  I think at that point they decided the Justices didn't need to attend but some do as a token representation of that branch.

I'm sure at the time I was calling Obama lots of names.

Imagine... the horror of a President personally attacking someone in an official capacity, rather than on a campaign trail.  We need honor and dignity.  Can't have some guy going off half cocked like Jerry Springer.

right, national review?

Appears to be to simply look at a description on any spending.  Does it indicate another country?  If yes, cut it.  Could a person on X construe it to be DEI related?  If yes, cut it.  Does it sound boring?  If yes, IDK, maybe flip a coin.

Out of likes but this seems to be an apt description.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but yes, I remember you were very adamant at the time that this ruling was constitutional and desirable.

I think he admits that.   We previously center-right types have had the window shift us a long way on some core things.

I still think it was constitutional, just not desirable.  Congress has had years to find a more desirable solution while still remaining constitutional.  Never really understood why that's SCOTUS' fault.

... case in point, as recently as three years ago I thought the pronoun thing was weird and was convinced there was a cottage industry talking people into transitioning for profit.

Yesterday I changed my work email signature to protest the ridiculous pronoun policy.

I still think a lot of the same/similar thoughts.  i also acknowledge that not everyone has to think or be the same way.  I think the idea of diversity as a strength really is the thing this is a battle over.
