I was going to post that Mize will be the Tigers breakthrough surprise this year, but actually there are quite a few players that could do that.

Agree. I’m not sure when I have felt so excited and nervous for the possibilities of spring training and the season. This is becoming the organization I’ve been hoping decades for them to be.

I second this sentiment. This year has the possibility to be one of the most engaging seasons we have experienced for some time. The battles for positions looks like they will be very intense.

Slightly off-topic, but an older coworker of my son who buys boxes of cards every year had these extras and gave him gave them to my son today. Is this a standard issue card? Or a part of some special set?

Bert—Topps comes out with a holiday/winter themed set.  Those appear to be part of last year’s.

Too many card sets to track these days imho. Give me 1956 topps any day

In 1984 one of my best friends in Tucson sold part of the card collection he had inherited from his older brother that had multiples of 1956 Ernie Banks, Mickey Mantle, etc. for $2000 which is about $7500 today. Those were inspiring cards. He didn’t sell the entire collection. I’m not sure how many individual cards he sold because he still had a ton left over.

We bought two sets of 1987 baseball cards the year our son was born. I couldn’t even tell you what brand they are but I really need to dig them up and see. They’ve never been opened. Due to the number of card producers out there, I doubt the sets are worth much.

Unfortunately the 87 sets aren't worth very much, factory sealed typically go for about $40. If one of the sets is the "tiffany" set, that's more rare and worth closer to $400. Cards from the mid 80s to mid 90s were overproduced. You can still find boxes and packs at most flea markets.

IdahoBert could have helped, but he stopped collecting twenty five years prior when they stopped including them In his Pappy’s tobacco.

Holy mary, mother of god! I knew Ilitch had invested a substantial amount of money in infrastructure for the team, but is it really more than $200 million?! Because that's what McCoskey is saying in this article.

Between Lakeland and Detroit so it probably includes the new scoreboard, walls and locker rooms in Detroit.

Still, that is an absolute ****load of money to invest in infrastructure for the team. Only by way of broad comparison, Comerica Park cost $300 million to build the whole thing.

I wonder if $200M incluldes the inclusion of the Home Plate Club they are doing this winter.

The 200$million dollar number is not a surprise as I have heard that from other sources some time ago

did they maybe give the whole park a coat of paint too - it needed one.

Especially that awful greenish yellow on the cinder block walls.  Looks straight out of some mid century government office. All that’s missing are steel desks with folding chairs.   The park is 25 years old now and it’s time to upgrade some of the visuals.  The displays look faded. Even the signs giving off the section numbers. You could do a lot without spending too much.    For example here is what I saw in Tampa at Steinbrenner field.
