Are they doing enough to make the Opening Day roster. Look, I get that Opening Day is but a moment in time and there will be roster shuffles throughout the season. But once they're on the roster, they have a chance to remain there simply by producing. Other roster moves will occur. Will they force themselves to stay on the roster going forward? If Meadows isn't throwing this week, then is he going to have enough time to be ready for Opening Day? 13 position players (I don't see them going with less than 13 pitchers) C (2) - Rogers, Dinger OF (4) - Greene, Carpenter, Perez, Meadows (or Jones) INF (7) - Keith, Torres, Sweeney, Ibanez, Tork, McKinstry, Baez Once Vierling gets back, I guess that means Jones goes. Plus there's Jace Jung, who I think will start in Toledo. I don't know, I sense a trade is going to happen at some point. The infield is kind of a mess. I hope Baez can show us something. Quote

Even if they think he is figuring something out, it's hard to carry him on the roster as first base is taken and they probably don't want a DH/1B on the bench. They could use a right-handed hitting outfielder. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) Barring injury to somebody he wouldn't play everyday but I think with Keith still taking reps at 2nd you could find enough ABs for Tork between 1st and DH. Basically any one of Torres, Keith or Carp off day and Tork could get in the lineup. Edited March 13 by RandyMarsh 1 Quote

The Royals played at what was called Baseball City, which was about 15 miles or so east of Lakeland. I believe it was at the I-4 and Rt. 27 interchange. The baseball stadium there is no more. I think it's all a shopping and condo area now. I went to games at both locations years ago. Didn't the Reds play in Sarasota? Quote

The White Sox did also prior to the Orioles. Edited to add. The Giants were first from 1924-1927. The Red Sox were in Sarasota from 1933-1959, the White Sox from 1960-1997 - with Ed Smith Stadium being built in 1989. The Reds were there from 1998-2009. The Orioles have been there since then. RedTeamGo! Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) Random thought - how about a trade for failed prospects? Noelvi Marte for Spencer Torkelson Who says no? Edited March 13 by RedTeamGo! Quote

That would make us kind of crowded at SS/3B now, assuming Jace Jung is also not toast. Marte also has not hit enough in the high minors to overcome his awful defense. Quote

Tigermojo Posted March 13 Posted March 13 No reason to trade Tork right now. Hinch will make the lineup work for anyone who can hit. Quote

I don't think anyone would offer what Harris thinks Tork's value is. I don't have his whole trade history but usually he has traded less than one year of control for multiple years of control. Quote

When he didn't make the playoff roster last year, I figured he would be headed for more minor league seasoning at least at the beginning of the year. Quote
papalawrence Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I believe I heard this on the Tigers territory podcast about a month ago - that Harris expects 2 top-100 prospects to consider trading Tork. So better than the haul they got for Flaherty. I don't see any team offering that Quote

See if you can guess who it is - Backup infielder. - Grew up in Windsor - Played from 1953 - 1961 for the Tigers, Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins, and Kansas City A's. - Wound up scouting for the Tigers and had a 1968 World Series ring that he showed me (when he was scouting). Who is it? Reno Bertoia! Quote
davidsb623 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I think Colt Keith should be taking reps at 3B, 1B should be Tork's as long as he continues to produce. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Why keep McStinky ? Just let Jung and Tork play in Detroit at least they have potential upside. This love for mcStinky to the point of loosing young players seems counter productive to me. Quote
