Was just looking at the rest of the spring training schedule and discovered some things I hadn’t noticed or thought about.

1) There are 7 NL teams in the Grapefruit’s 15-team league and we only play three of them. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta. Why is there no Miami, St  Louis, Washington, or Mets?

2) It’s easy, not to play Central Division rivals in the Grapefruit and “reveal our hand“ because there’s only one, Minnesota.

3) For some reason, we always seem to play the Yankees a lot - four times this year. I have no problem with this, but it’s almost like the Tigers and the Yankees have a partnership.

4) The Tigers play 13 of their 32 games against NL teams and two of those are not in Florida. Their last two spring training games are in San Francisco against the Giants. The Tigers might be facing Verlander in SF, which would be kind of cool.

Sounds like Torkleson is getting some reps in RF.

Per AJ: "It's just a sprinkle... Nothing more than that."

So... just trying to find creative ways to cover a few OF innings... which explains Baez in CF and Tork in RF.

That’s not an iceberg in the distance. It’s just the moon reflecting off the ocean. We’ll be fine.

But yesterday the moon was blood red. Coincidence?

As per Hinch, Tork will spend some time in right field tomorrow against the Pirates in Lakeland. Tork’s been working with Hess and Lombard in right field.

This could get pretty funny.

Yes.  I think this, and the other position player versatility moves, and the pitching chaos that we saw last season, I think this all gets back to Hinch not only managing a season by breaking things down to a game by game level, he’s also breaking the season down to a bit more of a granular level within the game.  I wouldn’t expect to see Torkelson logging whole games in the OF.  I’m not so sure we’d see that with Malloy, save for blowout games or injury / bench strength dictates it.  But this experiment with Torkelson is probably more for in game moves, using him as a pinch hitter, or maybe there’s another move made where he goes from 1B to OF as a result of the other move, or maybe he starts in OF vs LHP and is replaced later in the game.

Yes this... exactly.

What's Jacoby Jones up to? Victor Reyes? I'm obviously joking but I did look up Reyes and he had 202 hits, 111 RBI and a .905 ops in KBO last year.

That seems to be his speed.

Per the Free Press...Gibby is stepping away from broadcasting to focus on his health. It's a shame.. At times he was difficult (not ancient **** Clark counting down to New Years difficult tho) to listen to, but I enjoyed hearing his perspective

That bar is low but yes this is a great comment. I think we all are guilty of just assuming any time we hear of a guy working at another position it's cause they are thinking about using him there in a relative full time basis when in fact it could just be for the reasons Cas mentioned.

Interesting if there is any truth to what Shep is saying.

Not to sound cold hearted but if the Tigers felt that his condition was effecting the quality of his performance I think it's fair game for them to make this call.

Of course.  I like Gibby, but I’m also an old white guy.  I’ll watch the telecasts even if Roseanne Barr is in the booth.
If you want to expand and appeal to a younger audience, Dirks is a better option.
