Most important thing about Mickey Stanley playing short is that he never bumped Northrup out of the game, his counterpart in center.  Northrup had a heck of a series.

I remember having a Tom Tresh card that showed his positions as SS-OF. Being a Yankee I could care less and never looked into that.

Mickey Stanley’s 1968 World Series is a great story,  He had all of 68 innings at SS that season before taking the slot in the championship.  Maybe he didn’t hit all that well in the series, but he was easily the better batting option over Oyler.

You know the joke "O-for-September".   It was literally true for Oyler.   He also went O-for-August too.   In fact, his last hit that season was July 13th.   O for 36 after that.

He was the 3rd player the Seattle Pilots drafted in the Expansion Draft in 1969.     Wonder why they failed,  LOL.    Nothing against him personally.    He did *improve* to .165 for the Pilots.

Apparently we’ve signed Manuel Margot for outfield depth and he’s expected to be rostered for opening day.

I would hope Perez doesn’t and both Malloy and Tork are on team. Don’t think we should overreact to spring stats, but Perez has a 300 ops and doesn’t have a great track record in minors. Would make sense to roll with Margot until Vierling or Meadows is back.

I’m assuming Wenceel, but Malloy and Tork get kind of redundant and add nothing defensively—so perhaps Malloy.

i could see Malloy starting in Toledo until Vierling is healthy and then us releasing Margot and swapping Perez for Malloy at that point unless Wenceel is off to a fast start.  That way we aren’t crippling ourselves defensively in the outfield.

Jones' bat has gotten pretty cold as the pitching got better - I'd guess he's out.

One thing about Mickey Stanley I learned is that this wasn’t something out of the blue that was down before the WS. That’s how it was presented to me all these years. Like Mayo Smith woke up and came up with the solution. They planned it down the stretch.

Perez is going to finish the day today 3/28 and zero XBH.  That was probably enough desperation to sign Margot. At the rate it's going, CF is going to be Javy's job to lose.....🤣

Assuming Perez goes down, wonder what the lineup against righties would look like. Margot presumably starts in cf against lefties, maybe you sneak Malloy in one corner and tork as DH (RIP outfield defense). Against RHP you would have carp in a corner, maybe tork still DHs, and do they roll with Greene in cf?

Since Jones isn't on the roster, I'd have to give the edge to Perez.        I know his Spring was awful, but we have all talked about how sometimes Spring doesn't mean anything.    I would also give Perez a nod over Malloy because Perez can play Center.

Who gets lopped off the 40-man?   Kreidler?

To me Tork has to make the team.   They asked him to re-focus himself and he's done it this Spring.  It might not translate, but what else can you ask of him?   Can he hit 30 HR in a year?    Yes, because he already has.   Maybe staying away in the offseason cleared his head.     To give up on him now would be ridiculous.   Maybe putting Keith and Malloy at first base lit a fire under Tork's arse.

The fact that they signed Margot to a one-year contract makes me believe that Meadows is not coming back for quite some time and that Perez will be the one on the Tony Packos Express once Vierling returns.    The fact that Margot can play all 3 OF positions will be a big advantage for Dr. Frankenstein Hinch.

In a perfect world Wenceel should have even more advantage since he can field on the IF, if he could throw there he'd be another ideal utility guy, but apparently they don't even want to know if he's ever gotten over his yips throwing to 1b.

I think it's to soon for that.  I'm waiing for Edman to come here and tell us they don't need drop anyone due to some kind of technicality.

Tork is finally showing signs of being the hitter they want him to be - you have to ride that for now and see how it plays out. If by the time Meadows comes back he's back to being bad Tork, there's your roster spot, even if it is on the wrong side.

They haven’t moved Cobb to the DL yet either from what I’m seeing

Cobb is throwing; Madden isn't. Madden is by far the furthest away from returning; he's the next 60-Day guy. None of the others are guaranteed to be out til May 26.
