I almost caught a bat it the stands from Jeff Larish during a game on the south side—by which I mean, I almost caught one in the face. The bat slipped out of his hands at the end of the swing and came tomahawking into the stands. This was back before the extended nets, of course. It landed to the other side of the guy next to me.

Yeah, that was when that guy reached for it and hurt his hand, I remember that.

Pope Morosi was on the MLB Network talking about how Hao Yu Lee is really turning some heads in the Tigers organization and could be a real possibility at 3B for the Tigers this season. Sounds like he could be a guy to keep an eye on  throughout spring training.

I asked Hinch how Larish, Fick, Munson and Shelton were looking at third base and he had the same thing to say about each of them:  "Moves well for a big man, has soft hands and a strong, accurate arm."

I bet they all own pickups.  Not that I'm for or against.  Have one myself.  Just sayin,

He just turned 22 a few weeks ago, I think it’s a long shot he would make the team…but it is an intriguing idea. Slightly cheaper than Bregman.

If he rakes in Toledo, I can see him coming up mid-year.

Saw that. From Taiwan. I hope he makes it big with the Tigers and a department store puts up a large mural of him. Here's a pic of a giant Wang in 2007 when we were there visiting my wife's family.

That will make even more sense when Torres leaves after this year and Jung is the starter at 2B. Then Lee is the RH'ed 3B'man against lefties or at 2B with Jung as the LH'ed side of that.

I don't think Jung stays at 3B. I think he gets Toledo this year and is acclimated (gets most of his starts) back to 2B...

But I'm just guessing...

Still... I think Lee will platoon with Jung in large part... IMO.

Me:  Do the Tigers have any infield prospects who hit righthanded?

You:  Hao Yu Lee

tiger337:  Fine thank you

"I need to get back to using the splitter a lot"

I actually don't much like the sound of that. He first came up 'using the splitter a lot' and was ineffective and had to abandon it. Sounds a bit too much little bit like a guy clutching at straws at this point. I hope not of course, but I'd rather have heard him say he had a much improved high heater he needed to use more!

But when he came up didn't they modify it so it was more sinker and less that splitter he had in college?

Could be, but to me for Mize the issue has always been that his FB is too easy to hit. You can work on tweaking your breaking stuff all you want, but for 90% of pitchers,  how the off speed plays always depends on how good a FB it's playing against.

In the article he talks about modeling his game after Gausman.  He needs to be able to throw the fastball down (as well as up) to get hitters to swing at the split.

He also talked about how driveline worked on his slider so he now has 3 versions of it.  And what counts it was more effective.

All of the modifications with the intention of inducing more whiffs.

I feel confident enough in the Fetter team to say that if Mize comes back with the splitter, they worked with him on it extensively before he breaks it out.

intention is easy. Pitching is like other kinds of planning, you can do as much as you like but it only lasts until a few hitters put your plans in the seats. Mize has been in this org with Fetter for quite a while now, He's had problems with command, with his temperament, and with his FB being flat. I'm pulling for the guy but in my view he's got a lot to prove this ST.
