I would like to, but I have to admit my overall mental health has been better as I've worked to limit my news / Trump news intake and I'll probably just stay away.

That said, would love to be able to ask him a question with cameras around.  None of the current reporters following him know how to.  They should be able to see what some of these MAGA'esque podcasters he's bringing into the press pool and follow their lead.

"Mr. President, as we all know, the only reason why we are dealing with this Ukraine/Russia war is because of the incompetence of the Obama administration.  As you have rightly pointed out in the past, if Obama had provided a security agreement at that time, we aren't in this situation today.  So can you outline the security agreements that will be put into place to ensure this issue is resolved when the fighting stops?"

It's because all high level politicians are made out of the same self serving cloth.   The Republicans have gotten way out of hand, but the Democrats are not going to dig us out.  It's going to have to come from the people.

Maybe the current crop of Democratic leaders won’t dig us out of that, but the people who do dig us out are probably going to have to come to that through the Democratic Party, because ultimately this is a two-party power system, and it’s not going to come through Republicans by magic.

It could come from mass protests by the people. I think that would require a substantial eventto trigger it though.

Mass protests probably will be a catalyst to change, but in the end, real power change in Washington would have to come through the political process, and in a two-party system in which one of the parties is completely in thrall to a foreign power, that leaves only the party that is not. Unless you mean a new political system ruled by mass protests of the people, which, who knows that would even work.

I also agree a substantial event would have to trigger the mass protests, but I don't think we are all that far from seeing that.

My big fear on big protest is it might prompt the Regime to send out troops and then do a real crackdown. (Look at events in Milwaukee today)
Maybe a massive strike instead. Shut everything down for a day or two.

No doubt this regime would fire on its own people if there’s mass protests.

I think it's going to take mass protests to wake everyone up.  Authoritarianism is happening fast.  Waiting until Fall, 2026 (and optimistically counting on a blue wave) may be too late.  it's not 1993 anymore.

So, how do we stop authoritarianism?

That’s a very good question. I still think mass protests are needed, but would not be surprised to see lethal force used to squash them. I hope they wouldn’t resort to this, but would put nothing past these monsters.

What happens if we have competitive authoritarianism where leading democrats see how easy authoritaianism is and they decide do it too when they get back in charge?

Wouldn't that mean fair elections? How exactly does that work under the way the current Regime is trending?

That's why I think mass protests are important.  Right now, the Republicans feel as if they can just gaslight the nation and everything will go the way they want.  If they know the public is on to them, it won't be so easy.

Not only protests but support for organizations AND non profits who actually help those affected by actions of the Regime. I'd almost rather donate to help fight them in the courts and actually see that something gets done than see people injured because of a handful of thugs got out of control.

Both ideas are useful as long as their coordinated.

I see nothing in the Democrats' rhetoric that leads me to believe they will crush the people with authoritarianism, although the Republicans will be glad to "remind" you it's exactly what Joe Biden did.

The inflection point will be when the Republicans start using rhetoric and taking action that tell us they don't care about approval ratings anymore.

That's where we could be saved.  As much as Trump needs control and power, he also needs to be loved.
