Problem is that the players in the Wings’ wave of top 6 draft picks in Seider, Raymond and Edvinsson are already established NHLers and the Wings are still out of a playoff position. The next wave is mostly mid 1st round picks or below, for whom the jury is still out, with many bubble teams having a similar handful of potential players. Look, I think the drafting of Yzerman has been “fine” and the prospects pool now is “promising”. But that’s the strength of Yzerman’s tenure and so far hasn’t been enough to make up for the underwhelming results from trades and FA signings, as Freak references. Quote

slothfacekilla Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Tralmaks, 28, spent the 2024-25 season with Rytíři Kladno in the Czech Extraliga and ranked among the team leaders with 23 goals (1st), 28 assists (1st), 51 points (1st), a plus-four rating (T1st), 66 penalty minutes (1st), two power play goals (T7th), 13 power play points (2nd), two shorthanded goals (1st), two game-winning goals (T1st) and 143 shots (T2nd) in 48 games. His 51 points were the most of any player in Czechia’s top professional league. The 6-foot-4, 209-pound forward played the entire 2023-24 campaign with Rytíři Kladno, recording 32 points (21-11-32) and 34 penalty minutes in 52 regular-season games, in addition to five points (3-2-5) in four postseason contests. Tralmaks has also collected 41 points (22-19-41), a plus-23 rating and 42 penalty minutes in 87 games over parts of three seasons with the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins from 2020-23. Large Latvian dude, sounds like he plays fourth line minutes for the national team. With his size it sounds like he could at least play a checking role if the offense doesn't translate. Probably just AHL fodder but maybe he randomly hits and becomes the Wings' version of Balinskis in Florida (a guy can dream). Leading the Czech league in scoring is at least intriguing but who knows. lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 Wings game in Vegas is on ABC for some reason. Odd matchup to showcase. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 Powerplay is still strong. Raymond scores on what looked to be attempted pass. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 The Wings have got in close a couple more times, but still 1-0. Quote

lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 Vegas throws things at net and they keep going in. 3-1 Knights. Wings might not even stay close in the playoff spot. Update: 3rd goal is beimg challenged for offside. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 After that reprieve, the Wings give up a goal with 3 seconds to goal in period. Backbreaker. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 Another powerplay goal. Wings back to within 3-2. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 that didn't last long. They just stand around waiting to die on the penalty kill. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 (edited) Meanwhile Montreal scored 3 goals in 5 minutes in the 3rd period to tie the Avs and are headed to OT. I’m watching the game and am very jealous of the Bell Centre fans. Edited March 23 by lordstanley Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted March 23 Posted March 23 I was just about to write how we looked cooked tonight and then Debrincat does that to make it 5-3. This defensive unit is still awful though. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 (edited) Empty netter makes it 6-3. Wings have gone 2-9-0 in past 11 for 4 out of 22 points. Have given up 4 or more goals in 7 of those 9 losses. If they had simply gone 4-5-2 in those 11, which still would have been poor at less than a point per game pace, they’d be alone in 8th place. Edited March 23 by lordstanley Quote

The Rangers probably have the best roster of teams battling the Wings, but the loss of Adam Fox for awhile might hurt. Still a chance for NJ to fall down enough into a bubble spot, so can hope for that if the Rangers begin a surge into 3rd place in their division. - Montreal, Philadelphia and NYI are close enough still to be counted, at 3-5 points behind Detroit, but if the Wings end up having to worry about any of those teams they're in trouble and probably will have been passed by a couple of others before that At the beginning of the month, biggest competition for the final two playoff spots looked to between Detroit, Ottawa, Columbus, NYR and Boston. The Sens have gone on a hot streak, fine, and have sewn up a spot. But in their past 10 Detroit has gone 2-8, Boston has gone 2-7-1, Columbus 2-7-1, and NYR has gone 3-5-2. That's pathetic. With the caveat that "these are professionals and are supposed to play hard and energized 100% of the time no matter what", have to start wondering what type of impact on the dressing room there has been by Yzerman deciding at three straight trade deadlines to not bring in material reinforcements. Management can stress patience and some potential long-term payoff, but players on the ice are supposed to play with urgency? Well yes, they are supposed to, but still ... 1 Quote
