A best of 3 against Atlanta, Game 2 was at the Olympia and was a rare televised home game. Lochead deked the goalie and tapped it in on the way by the net. Have never heard Bruce Martyn more excited. For years I considered that the biggest highlight since being a Wings fan. Expand The 4min 35s mark of this clip below is gold. Footage of Lochead’s winning goal taken from the vantage point of the opposite end blue line a few rows up from the Red Wings’ player bench. Crowd noise, no commentary. This is amazing too. The 50s mark is the Flames’ radio call of Lochead’s winning goal, as called by Jiggs Macdonald who later became well-known for calling Islanders and national games. lordstanley Posted March 13 Author Posted March 13 5 of the Wings' next 6 games are on the road. Every game is a team higher in the standings than the Wings (#22 in NHL, 68 points), with 5 of the games being against teams at least 13 points better than the Wings: - at Carolina (#6 in NHL, 82 points) - vs Vegas (#4 in NHL, 83 points) - at Washington (#1 in NHL, 94 points) - at Vegas (#4 in NHL, 83 points) - at Utah (#20 in NHL, 69 points) - at Colorado (#8 in NHL, 81 points) Of the Wings' final 17 games, just 6 are at home as the other 11 are on the road. Wings have their work cut out for them, to say the least. Quote
buddha Posted March 13 Posted March 13 ekblad is out for florida on a ped suspension. might lower his price this offseason if anyone is interested. i wouldnt be. not at the price, age, and decline. how about an offer sheet to byram, miller, bouchard, or dobson? all young defensemen who could potentially step into a top 4 role. how much would you pay marner? i think it would cost the wings 7 years at 14 to get him. i know rantanen got 12m but that's in a low tax state. michigan is...umm....not that. Shinzaki Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) Kasper is no Steven Weiss or Frans Nielsen...but he looks good so far 🙂 Edited March 13 by Shinzaki 1 Quote
buddha Posted March 13 Posted March 13 if kasper keeps it up, he might finish top 5 in calder votes. Quote

Wide variety of draft positions among the consensus contenders: Macklin Celebrini - 1st round #1 overall in 2024 Lane Hutson (defense) -2nd rondo #62 overall in 2022 Dustin Wolf (goalie) - 7th round #214 overall in 2019 Matvei Mitchkov - 1st round #7 overall in 2023 Logan Stankoven - 2nd round #47 overall in 2021 Kasper was drafted 1st round #8 overall in 2022 Quote
buddha Posted March 14 Posted March 14 gustafsson flubs a great set up from kane, then does a bad pinch leading to a 2 on 1 that holl breaks up. i hate that guy so much. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 DeBrincat with a late goal gives the Wings a 1-0 lead after 1. The Wings need to start winning games they're not supposed to - such as away to Carolina. Quote
lordstanley Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 Bad start to 2nd period. Really made the Wings look silly on the 2nd goal. Quote
Tigerbomb13 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Absolutely pathetic defense on that second Carolina goal Quote
lordstanley Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 3-1, ugh. Mrazek isn’t seeing puck well. This is like the 3rd period of the Washington game. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 You mean giving up three even strength goals in one period doesn't cut it? Quote
lordstanley Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 Red Wings powerplay with exactly 4 minutes to go. Larkin made that happen with solo effort Quote
gehringer_2 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 still missing too many pieces. There was a point in 2019 I though they might only be a couple of players away - turns out it's going to have taken more like a dozen. Quote

Expand Raymond and Larkin need the puck to be effective, but since Tyler B was traded they don't seem to be to able find a player with the speed to play with them who has the grit to go get possession. When Larkin and Raymond have to spend all their time just trying to get the puck, they don't accomplish much. Quote

1984Echoes Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Next up will be Danielson who, before he gets a job Centering a line of his own (I LOVE the way the DeBrincat-Kasper-Kane line is looking...!), will be a winger on the Raymond-Larkin line... Just a guess. Soderblom and Compher may also get some time there... but I think Nate takes that spot primarily and swiftly... Next year. Quote
buddha Posted March 15 Posted March 15 i think asp comes up before danielson. unless danielson pulls a kasper and really starts to dominate gr down the stretch. Quote
1984Echoes Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I think buddha mentioned UFA's this summer... Could we get Noah Dobson? I'd love to pair him with Edvinsson. And trade for Owen Power to give him a chance to live up to his draft billing as a top pair guy... So Power-Seider and Edvinsson-Dobson. Everyone else 3rd pairing or spot play on ST's... Unless Wallinder or Buium are ready to break out and pair up with Seider or on a second pairing with Dobson...? But I don't see any signs of that yet... Thoughts? Quote
1984Echoes Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I don't think so. I think it's Nate 1st, and ASP with a year in Grand Rapids. Quote
