They're gonna keep him until the last year of the contract.

One of my son’s friends said that he’d been reading that this year was Baez’s year…. This is a person who doesn’t follow this team all that closely. And sports journalists have to produce copy, and Cinderella revivals are enticing copy.

I understand the desire to write him off.  But if the surgery does the trick for him physically and he can make changes to his approach such that he’s himself defensively and closer to career norms at the plate, that’d be a good thing for the Tigers.  Sunk cost, so sure, if he’s no good anymore, release him.  But if he can rebound to a level that benefits the Tigers, let’s enjoy that.

I haven’t heard any reports of celebratory rioting and the turning over and burning of cars in Detroit since Javy’s home run. I’m disappointed.

For me it's all about the power numbers with Javy, by this point in his career he is who he is in terms of average and obp but perhaps this surgery can help bring back the power numbers he had pre Tigers. If he can put up 25 HRs with a portion of those coming in high leverage spots he could be of value to us.
