The Sam Menzin story is now out there.  There was something after all.  What a turd.

But also not a good look on what the woman quoted saying as far as the org not being  a place women felt comfortable reporting these things.

I've been in the lobby of the Tiger offices a few times.  You go thru security (everybody goes thru, I watched players from the Padres, Max Clark and family the day he signed, TV people, etc. have to put all their crap in the thing like at the airport.  So I stand there and watch this while waiting for someone and there's a set of stairs that takes you up to the offices.  let's just say that anybody wearing a skirt that goes up or down those stairs or stands on the platform above is taking a risk of showing everybody their business.  Not a design a woman would have done.

I wasn't doing anything important.... I had a ticket situation to resolve because of a snafu on their end and only the ticket rep could resolve it so I was waiting on him.

Arbitrary end points!   But still a positive.

I don’t think it’s necessarily arbitrary to note that McKinstry has been killing it utility guy-style during the last three months of ball that counts.

It's noteworthy as long as you don't conclude that he has reached a new performance level.

I really, really hope the new front office leadership was not knowingly covering this up, or otherwise enabling him until it became clear they were going to be implicated in whatever his business was and then forced him out before it rolled over on them. I think they have to prove their hands are clean of it somehow. I don’t know how that would work.

As for women not feeling comfortable reporting this, I would think that would be true of practically any organization that’s 80%, 90%, whatever, male, irrespective of the actual atmosphere they foster. Even in the best of situations, whatever that would look like, just the sheer outnumbering would be enough for a woman to bite her tongue for fear of not knowing how badly they would be upsetting the apple cart and torpedoing their career, because you get one shot at it and you best not miss. Flip side, in a truly progressive organization, it would be clear as crystal that behavior is intolerable and all doors are open to legitimate complaints.

Agree, and I don’t think they did.

I'm the biggest McKinstry-stan here, but it is when the last four months weakens the case.

I just saw the story on WXYZ. Yeah, the guy sounds like a jerk. I just don't understand how some guys do this crap....very stupid.

My mistake. You didn’t say “they”. You said “you”. And I wasn’t saying he has reached a new performance level, either.

Not sure I’m fully understanding—do you mean he sucked in July so if you say last four months instead of the last three, the case for McKinstry has been killing it lately falls apart?

This just makes the likelihood of a live tiger vs. showgirl combat pit behind home plate that much less likely.

On the news, they said it was other major league officials too. Not just Tiger employees. The guy deserves what's coming to him.

I'm not going to defend these actions, but I can see how the culture in baseball front offices can lead to an environment where this is possible. Men in their 20's and 30's working 80-100 hours per week and unable to go out and socialize are probably going to creep on the only women they come across.

Again, not an excuse, but if you wanted to "five why" this, the workplace culture is probably a root cause of why this happens so often.

From opening day to July 31, McKinstry's OPS was 528. From Aug 1 to Aug 31, it was 955, from Sept 1 through the end of the season, 499. Then 1700 for 6 playoff games.

Go figure.

I don't think it's the age or the hours worked.  This **** happens all over and older men are often the offenders.

It’s probably more that he’s been a creep since he hit puberty and has just always had the status to get away with it or hadn’t taken it to this level until now.

You are probably right.

I should frame it that the workplace culture may make creeps more likely to strike, but can't really think of a great way to phrase it.
