gehringer_2 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) I saw the news about Malloy (out) and Kreidler (in) in the Freep, didn't see about Chafin. Thought he had a chance based on this last two outings. Petzold's panties will be in a bunch - he wanted Malloy over Torkelson. I hate to have to tell him that Torkelson is a better 1B than Malloy is an OF. If Malloy goes to Toledo and learns to do something useful with the shoe leather on his left hand he can still be a good piece. Edited March 26 by gehringer_2 Quote
gehringer_2 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 So I've got 13 position players: Dingler, Rogers Carpenter, Greene, Kreilder, Margot Ibanez, Baez, Sweeney, Keith, Torres, Torkelson, McKinstry and they still need to get the pitching down to 13. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) Petzold reporting that Chafin is going to go to Toledo and try to work his way back. I wondered if he would hang 'em up if he didn't make the team. Edited March 26 by gehringer_2 Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Is the pitching not: Skubal, Flaherty, Olson, Mize, Jobe. and Holton, Vest, Brieske, Brebbia, Kahnle, Maeda, Hanifee, Hurter? Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Looks like we also signed Ben Gamel to a minor league deal and traded for Tampa Bay minor league reliever Erbe Quote
IdahoBert Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 While we’re name dropping, one of my wife’s former coworkers as a hairdresser moved back to Detroit, and one of her regulars was Frank Tanana and he was pretty much of a no-frills guy. He got cheap haircuts at Supercuts, saw baseball more as a job and less of a calling, and was more interested in his family than anything else. Quote

Searching his BR page, he was drafted out of high school, and with all the sports leagues I play I know a bunch of ppl from that high school his age. Quote

Tanana is also deeply religious and grew close to Ernie Harwell through that, if I recall correctly. Quote
Tiger337 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Is now a good time to talk about how Matt Stairs and I dated the same woman in the same week? 1 1 1 Quote

lordstanley Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I saw an older dude wearing a navy blue Tigers' warmup jersey with Zumaya on the back in the check-out line of an IGA grocery store in downtown Vancouver about 10 years ago. Turns out it was his dad. 1 Quote
oblong Posted March 26 Posted March 26 When I did a tour of the Tigers clubhouse, maybe it was during a Tigerfest, on the bulletin board was a flyer for a prayer group or sunday chapel, along those lines, and it had Frank's name and his phone number. For hundreds of people to see that day. Andy Dirks hit on a friend of mine, back in his playing days, outside of a bar in Royal Oak. I know he's pretty religious now so I assume he wouldn't do such a thing now. Quote
IdahoBert Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 I can’t remember if it was when Zoom or Nick joined the team, and a sister of one of those two logged on and innocently announced her presence and some posters wisely advised her that we were apt to say not very nice things about her brother because we tend to look upon these players as livestock which we either love or despise. papalawrence Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I once played checkers with Mickey Stanley at his place near the Thornapple River. I was friends with one of his nephews Quote
papalawrence Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I realize it's largely injury related, but too much of the position player roster seems AAAAish to me. I'm hopeful for 85 wins, but won't be surprised by 75. If pitching, Greene and Carpenter stay healthy, more likely closer to 85. Quote
