lordstanley Posted Wednesday at 02:43 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 02:43 AM Canucks would have been officially eliminated with a loss tonight. Only delays the inevitable, but still, comeback from 3 goals down with a minute left in the 3rd. Wild. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted Wednesday at 02:51 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:51 AM 1 hour ago, buddha said: that was a comically bad goal. first, tarasenko turns the puck over with a ridiculous pass to center ice right to a hab. then the canadiens cycle as holl and johannsen crash into each other behind the net. johannsen loses his helmet and instead of checking the man standing alone in front of the net, he goes to retrieve his helmet and the guy he left all alone in front gets a tap in. amazing. Not really johannsen's fault is it? if he rejoins the play before he gets his lid it's a penalty isn't it? Quote

buddha Posted Wednesday at 04:47 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:47 AM if only they could shoot somewhere other than right at the goalie. if only our bottom pair wasnt an overmatched rookie and the corpse of justin holl. Quote
buddha Posted Wednesday at 04:55 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:55 AM How many red wings are basically 4th line replaceable junk? rasmussen? compher? motte? tarasenko? berggren? smith? soderblom? at least soderblom has skill, unlike rasmussen. maybe not compher but i'm mad at him for missing a wide open net. how many defensemen deserve to be in the bottom pair? chairot? petry? johannson? holl? gustafsson? i mean, does holl even belong in the league anymore? and he's on the hook next year for $3 million. the odds of detroit "running it back" with a couple of rookies thrown into the mix are much higher than them making real changes. they signaled as much with getting mrazek on the books next year for $4.5m. that was husso's money coming off the books that they just added back on for a bad goalie. Quote
buddha Posted Wednesday at 05:10 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:10 AM next year they have seider, chairot, holl, gustafsson, and johansson under contract. johansson is an rfa. not a lot of room for buium, wallinder, or ASP. i think a trade is probably coming. maybe we deal for one of those RFAs? at forward they lose kane, smith, and motte. berggren and soderblom are rfas. that's three spots for a free agent, danielson and mazur? i have a feeling they will bring kane back. berggren will be allowed to walk. soderblom probably comes back on a cheap deal or is part of a trade. rasmussen at 3 more years at $3m per makes me puke. i know he has defenders here but i dont get it. he does nothing austin watson doesnt do and watson will at least hit somebody. they have to get at least two impact players out of this offseason. and they have to prepare long term for edvinsson's extension. dont even ask about goal. mrazek at $4.25 and 40 year old cam methusala. sorry cossa, no room at the inn. tarasenko at $4.75 next year is an abomination that should get someone fired, but wont. IMO, only Red Wings that aren't either dime-a-dozen or over-the-hill are Raymond, Larkin, DeBrincat, Kane, Kasper, Seider and Edvinsson. I'll be generous and add Johansson. The rest are just filler. I think if you placed every other player on the Wings' NHL roster on waivers virtually all would go unclaimed. Quote

Dream on. They'll add washed up warm bodies or more draft picks Yzerman should be fired. Sorry, the cost of bringing a superstar back into the fold is that you could end up tarnishing a legacy. It shouldn't take this long to crack the top half of a conference and make the playoffs It didn't work. Why prolong it? Move on. Quote

lordstanley Posted Wednesday at 03:17 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 03:17 PM I don't see this as tarnishing Yzerman's legacy. I compartmentalize his playing career and GM career. I barely remember the blips of Trammell managing the Tigers or Gretzky coaching the Coyotes. Quote
Shinzaki Posted Wednesday at 03:34 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:34 PM Bring back Kane. Buy out Tarasenko. Obtain a top line wing to go with 71 and 23. Cat, Kasper and Kane are your second line. Copp, Compher and Ras is your checking line..or 3rd line if you must. Elmer, Danielson, Mazur and Lombardi can comprise the 3rd line with an extra fwd. In a perfect world, Lombardi dazzles everyone and earns time on the top line The defense is seemingly locked in for next year. Be nice if ASP forced Holl onto the healthy scratch list Quote
buddha Posted Wednesday at 04:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:23 PM one spot currently open on defense with petry leaving. if lane hutson can do what he's doing in montreal, i see no reason why ASP cant be here next year and not in GR. they need a left handed defenseman to pair with seider. is that edvinsson? if so, they need a second pair defenseman in the worst way to pair with a rookie (buium or ASP). that would allow them to move chairot down to a better matchup and leave simon and mo to do the top line stuff. or mo and another left handed shot like keandre miller. and everyone knows they need a forward. preferably a big one who will actually play big, unlike rasmussen or elmer. marner is a pipe dream. rantanen is gone. not sure there is another ufa you could get. another possibilty....MBN plays his way on the roster like kasper did. big, strong, big shot, high compete, goes to the net. Same goes with Cossa, if 23-year old Jakob Dobes can do what he's doing in Montreal. Drafted by the Habs in the 5th round in 2020, Dobes started 14 games for Montreal this season with a 2.87 GAA and a .904 Save %. Fans are hoping he will push Montembault for the #1 spot next season. (otoh, kasper and raymond) you can keep stevie, but the rest of the old retired red wings boys club that runs the organization needs to be gutted. stevie had talented execs before, he should be allowed to find them again. a summer like this one gets mgmt fired in most other non-nhl sports. i'm a stevie guy, but next year has to show something or he should resign. i dont think chris illitch has the balls to fire him. A front office with no turnover has to be a bad one. If it were good, other teams would be poaching. Quote

KnoxP Posted Wednesday at 07:46 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:46 PM Used to be a huge Wings fan back in the glory days. Since then is more just keep an eye on standings and watch from afar. That kick they got when Blashill was let go and McLellan took over brought me back a bit, thinking the Yzerplan is good, it was the coach...now...what a disappointment! Agree with the sentiment above about reworking the front office. Quote
