Thought they might backslide a bit this year...and they did.  Only real bright spots were the emergence of Kapser, Johansson and Edvinsson (lead the team in +/-).  They desperately need a top LW to pair with Larkin and Raymond.  Improving the D would be nice...but I don't know that they can with the current number of guys under contract

i also thought this was a "gap" year.

when kasper was on the top line, they were humming.  he went to the corners and to the front of the net.  he was exactly what they needed.  then copp got injured and he dropped down to center line two.  which is exactly the time line two started to heat up and line one went into a funk.

kasper at lw or kasper at c2 made a huge difference.

to your point, they desperately need a LW or a C2.  i dont think they need both because kasper can play one of those roles.

they need a top 4 defenseman to either allow ed to play with seider, or allow ed to lead the second pair.  they have a bundle of 3rd pair d (and guys who should be out of the league).  guys like chairot would be fine on 3rd pair.

marner and gavrikov would be great!  lol.

i'd almost rather overpay for gavrikov than give marner 13x7.  but that's where they are.  then deal a pick and some defense prospect depth for a solid line two forward.

goalie will remain a problem until cossa matures or augustine gets here.

dare to dream, wings fans.

My buddy pointed me to https://capwages.com/ today, I had been using puckpedia as my capfriendly replacement.  Apparently they partner with some sort of analytics company and they're really good at predicting UFA contracts according to him.  The Jets just signed Pionk today for 6 years at $7 million a year, the website predicted 6 years at $6,952,400.  Might be tough for the Jets to fit in Ehlers, they're predicting him to get 6 x $7,515,850.

https://capwages.com/players/ufas

after pionk, spotrac will have the jets at about $26 million in cap space but with only 16 players signed.  need to sign about 10 more to have a full roster plus available replacements.  they could fit in ehlers in the $7-$8 range but would have to pinch some pennies elsewhere this year.

the cap's continued rise incentivizes folks to sign these guys now even if its an overpay.

edit: the jets are probably the poorest franchise in the league, so who knows what their internal cap is.  might be much lower than the league cap.

Other than bringing Kane back...every offseason move SY made came up short.  Compare that to Trajan Langdon and the Pistons.  He brought in Beasley, Hardaway jr and Tobias Harris and all three of them contributed mightily to the team's record improvement.

Huge offseason for SY...he needs to make some moves that are more than just stop gaps

agreed.

even worse, some of those horrible moves are on 2 year deals that likely cant be moved without assets or buyouts.

Could someone give me the simplified explanation of the buyout process as it would be likely applied by the Wings? Say, how would it affect them to buy out Tarasenko or Holl? I know a little bit and that they can’t do it without limits and costs. Are we still paying Abdelkader for another year (but not much$)? TIA

Lmao wow, wah wah maybe if the team wasn't already on a losing streak and out of a playoffs spot going into the deadline it would have made sense to pay the silly prices for mediocre players at the deadline.  Take a look in the mirror, what a subpar captain he's turned out to be.

Lots of blame to go around. I’m sure management isn’t happy with the players, the players aren’t happy with management, even the newish coach may have frustrations. Good, I want them to all be unhappy and unsatisfied this summer until Yzerman has a good offseason and until the players come to training camp ready.
