Hongbit Posted April 3 Posted April 3 (edited) Watching the NCAA games left me a little disgusted last weekend. There was a constant trend of players driving the lane and refusing to attack the big at the basket. I repeatedly watched game after game of a guy blowing by his defender and then turning around and heading completely away from the hoop as he got close to the basket. It’s like they afraid of getting postered or something. The big is going to block some but he’s also going to get called for a foul as many times or more. 5 fouls in the college makes it really easy to put a big in foul trouble but that can’t happen if players are too afraid to go up strong and let the ref help them. Not sure if it’s softness or not wanting to end up as instagram short forever but these kids need to stop this trend. I really hope it doesn’t bleed over into the NBA. Edited April 3 by Hongbit Quote

Deleterious Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 I only watched a few games so maybe I'm wrong. But college seems to rely on the 3PT shot less than NBA teams do. Quote

Also, Cade has spent the entire season proving that more paint shots doesn't mean more free throws 🤣 Either way, it's obvious that changes to how they call the game defensively are overdue as well. Nobody will ever be in the corner. You just added two more defenders to the paint. It will mean more fouls and/or people taking 70 three point shots from above the break. Neither one is a fix IMO. More than willing to see it in the G-League though. Quote

More than willing to see it in the G-League though. don't know the breakdown on shot percentage in the corner vs the rest of the arc, but the real key is to get the eFG for the all threes -for at least the big majority of players, to a number closer to the eFG of the midrange jumper. Then the D is no longer biased to any point on the floor. If you can do that by eliminating just the corner, fine, if not the line needs to be moved back all the way around. 1 Quote

But also, isn't nearly every NBA player's celebration a three finger gun, bow and arrow, etc? Even Cade does the double-tap finger gun thing when he makes an And-1. I get that Ja has a real history with this and you certainly don't want players making the gun gesture to other players, but it seems like it might be something the NBA should address across the board if they're going to come down on it. Deleterious Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 I thought we might actually get a decent game tonight. But Houston is smoking OKC so far. Quote

Deleterious Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 Zach Lowe is back. He recently joined The Ringer and will do a podcast there. I think it might have already started. Quote
Deleterious Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 Knicks have been up 30 most of the game. 9 minutes left in the 4th and they have gone 8 deep. Starters are still in for the most part. Quote
Deleterious Posted April 6 Author Posted April 6 Before today's games. The WCF 3-8 seeds were separated by 1 1/2 games. With one week left in the season, you could go from a 3 seed hosting a first round playoff game to the play in. Crazy. Quote
