Glad he declared.  Was getting tired of people saying he would stay because of NIL.  1st year salary for this year's #1 pick is $11.5 million.  Teams can, and always do, give 1st round picks 20% over that number.  So he is looking at $13.8 million.  He was never staying.

Oh my god.   He ought to be fired for tis statement alone.     Talk about tone deaf.

I was of the belief that Nico was taking the bullet for the owner who demanded a trade in an evil plot to either somehow force Texas to approve sports betting or to move the Mavs to Las Vegas.    I don't know what to think now.   All I know is whether he was making the trade on the owner's orders or not - after saying this - he absolutely MUST be fired and as far as any future in the NBA, this guy is radioactive now.   What a ****ing idiot.

moving the mavs to vegas makes no sense considering sacramento still has a team.

The Adelson family made their fortune in Las Vegas.   First with the Comdex convention and later with The Sands/Venetian resorts.

i understand that, but from a league perspective you dont move a franchise from the 4th (soon to be 3rd) largest city in america to las vegas.

i know what happened in seattle but the league acknowledges that was a mistake AND it had to do with arena issues.  does dallas have arena issues?  i dont think so.

but to your point, if they DID want to sabotage the team, trading away your #1 asset for a pile of magic brow beans is a good way to do it.

From a league perspective, an open market in Dallas creates an amazing leverage position for any owner looking to squeeze public funds for a new arena.

they already have one in seattle.

abandoning a market like dallas has reprecussions too, especially in short term loss of revenue.

Dallas is whole different animal.  Its metro population is twice as big as Seattle’s and growing bigger every day.    It would be a marquee destination for any owner in a smaller market.

I can't wrap my head around paying a premium for a big market team just to move it to a small market.

Just buy New Orleans or Charlotte.  Save $2 billion on the sale and face far fewer hurdles in moving the team.

The ex-wife and stepson inherited $30 Billion.   Money doesn’t mean a thing to them.  They’re premium buyers.  Value is probably a turn off for them.

Vegas is a weird market for sports as the constant flow of tourists can help add significant numbers to the potential ticket base (at least in theory).

I guess it was GM.  He either hired Williams or wasn't strong enough to stand up to the owner.   Either way, not good.

ummmm...marvin bagley?  trading for the worst player in the nba in james wiseman?

if they had hired charles lee or whomever weaver had wanted to hire they would have won 25 games instead of 14 or whatever god awful amount they finally did.  the man ruined this franchise as much as tom gores did.

do him and joe sit around and talk about all the crappy moves they made in detroit?

"you think wiseman was bad?  i had the most cap space in the league and signed charlie villaneuva and ben gordon!"

"wait wait, you thought that was rough, i drafted killian hayes with a lottery pick!"

"ummmm....darko over bosh, carmelo, and wade?"

"ok, you win."

"i dont know, man.  you hired monty williams."

"yeah, but you hired michael curry!"
