Cade, Ausar and Duren were not ready for playoff basketball, all three were hugely overwhelmed. The vets played lights out for most of the game then cooled down in the 4th and the team was cooked once that happened. If Stew is too injured to be at his best I think the Pistons get swept, he's the anchor of their defense and the Knicks were getting everything they wanted at the rim the moment he went out.

Where is the coach?  Where is JB so say anything to these players?  12 mins of throwing the ball away and not even trying on defense.  Cade basically playing for the Knicks with his effort.

Lol this guy with the coach again.

9:16 left in the 4th quarter, the Pistons were winning 98-90.

Right around Haraway getting fouled on a breakaway and not called? It changed the momentum.

4th quarter shooting:

Harris 1-2

THJ - 0-3

Beasley - 1-4

IF it wasn't for those guys the Pistons would have lost by 30. They were fantastic most of the game then ran out of gas in the 4th

That's why he's been blocked for 2 years. Mr Negative and like an irritating gnat in your ear while trying to sleep. Never anything constructive.

I bet Stew is done. Blaha mentioned that he was hobbled getting on the plane to NY. And your right, he's the heart and soul of our defense.

Smart move and advice I should take

It's one game.  Not holding it against them.  They did what they needed to do for us to win.

Cade, Duren, and Thompson did not do what we needed them to do.  I kind of feel bad for Cade because he is going to be great (he already is in many ways) but if we don't find a point guard, or at least another guy who can carry the a large part of the load of facilitating offense, I fear that people are going to be disappointed with the results at the end of the season.

Also, Thompson should not guard Brunson.  I hate when we put him on guys like Brunson or Trae Young.  You are wasting his skills because he either can't guard them or he ends up in foul trouble.  Put him on Bridges or Anunoby.  If you want to put him on Brunson for a possession or two late in the game, that's fine.  Asking him to get guard Brunson the majority of the time is just stupid.

Best lineup tonight by +/- was:

Beasley, Cade, Stew, Schroder, and THJ at +5

Worst lineup was:

Harris, THJ, Beasley, Duren, and Cade at -15.

Individually the worst player was Duren at -20 followed by Harris at -16.  Not a shock there.

Stew was the only + player at +8 but he had the advantage of not playing the end of the 4th.

Their star > our star tonight.

THJ, Beasley, and Harris were great in the 1st half.  All three were brutal in the 2nd half.

Cade wants to be the man he cant let a 15-0 run happen.  I know some of it was with him on the bench.  But he needs to grab the ball, clear out, and get a bucket to stop the bleeding.

This was the game to steal.

It was there for the taking.  Just a frustrating and painful 4th.

As dismal as it was they were down only 6 with 90some seconds left.  Still trying to figure out how that miracle happened.

so.....no extension for duren?  lol.

I don't want to put too much emphasis on this series but this does feel true for him.

Duren deserves every bit of criticism he is receiving.  But that doesn't excuse the perimeter guys from the terrible job they did on defense.

Brunson was able to turn the corner and get downhill anytime he wanted.  The only reason he didn't go for 40+ is because of how bad he shot in the 1st half.  He missed a ton of easy/open looks in the first half.  He shot 4/15 in the first half.

It wasn't just in the PnR either.  Plenty of times he was just beating his man one on one.

The other thing working against the Pistons is that Towns can step out on the perimeter and shoot.  If Duren/Stewart are on him without switching, that's easy pickings for the Knicks when they blow by the perimeter defense.  I think that's why we saw Harris guarding him a bit more than maybe was expected.

The defensive numbers for each player.  It shows the numbers that were put up by the players they were guarding.

I wouldn't take this as gospel.  For example, Jalen Duren spent the most of his time guarding Hart.  It wont show how bad he was at rotating and/or protecting the rim.

The amount of times OG was able to get between Cade and the screen setter is amazing.  Cade and Duren have been in the league 4 and 3 years and they still don't have a clue how to run a PnR.

Duren sets his screens too low.  Cade goes too high off of the screen, so OG has a ton of space to slide between them and blow up the PnR.  KAT doesn't have to hedge on Cade because of it and that means Duren has no space to roll to the basket for the lob.

Cade needs to go right at Durens shoulder that is basket side.  As he gets there he needs to flair back to the other shoulder, touching Duren as he does it.  That eliminates the gap and OG has to follow Cade over the screen, which means KAT now has to hedge, or go under it and that opens up the 3PT shot for Cade.

One other problem in the PnR.  When Cade can turn the corner the Knicks have at least one guy waiting for him.  So he is essentially going against 3 defenders.  The Pistons can counter that by setting their screens closer to half court.

Right now they set screens at or around the 3PT line.  Watch what the Knicks do with Brunson.  They set their screens a good 10 feet closer to the mid-court line than Detroit.  If Detroit did this it would give Cade extra space and time before having to deal with that third defender.  Opens up passing lanes, gives Cade space to maybe go by that defender, etc.  Right now he comes off the screen and its very crowded, and he has no time/space to operate.
