Uhhhh...not really. Early season and small sample sizes. I was just looking at teams run differentials and while it matters later in the season, look at Texas. At -14, the worst run difference in their division. And they're in 1st place. Or Tampa...at +10, the 2nd best in the East. And last place. I guess check those numbers in....June or so? Need more data....

I believe in eating my small sample ice cream before it melts.

The hitting will drop. Only because the hitting in the American League so far is way down and the Tigers are pretty good so far but not anything crazy good. Water will seek its level. But the pitching should be in the top 3 all year. 

 

Can't believe why the Tigers just don't go for a superior defensive club along with their pitching in Comerica. Strive for winning 4-3 games. Just live with not having a top tier offense

Perhaps, but we also have Keith and Greene, who are our arguably best hitters that have contributed very little so far.  And zero contributions from Meadows and Vierling.

20 games is a perfect sample.  Do you know why?  It's because you can multiply everyone's stats by 8 and get a super-precise prediction of what their total year performance will be.  Tork is going to hit 48 home runs, and his 144 RBI will be fifth highest in team history, Greenberg has the top 4.

I think they would like to do that, but good fielders who can hit acceptably are getting more difficult to acquire.  You can't just have a bunch of Kreidlers.  I think Harris and company are actively seeking to develop more well rounded players in their system, but most of their recent prospects havenot been plus fielders.

Why is there an assumption that Keith is one of the best hitters on the team?  I feel he gets too much credit for something he hasn’t shown at the major league level outside of a month or two last season.  It’s not to say he won’t be good.  But he needs to prove he’s good before he’s anointed as good.

Yeah, it's funny how many fans have been name-dropping Chris Shelton wrt to Tork's current resurgence  -- not here, but other places for sure -- while taking it as a matter of faith that Keith is gonna start mashing any day now because... reasons. If anyone should be compared to Shelton right now, it's Keith, not Tork.

So far Tork has been their mvp of position players, and I'd say Carp, McKinstry and Dingler have been on the next tier. Of those I would only have predicted Carp to be this productive.

Yeah, I think Keith is a good prospect, but he hasn't done anything to make me assume that he is going to be a good hitter and given his defensive limitatons he's going to need to be an above average hitter

I think Keith learned how to be a good OBP hitter and that got him the deal and the promotion, but now he's feeling pressure - whether real or imagined, to hit for more power and his very-short-to-the-ball approach doesn't lend itself to that task so he's gotten himself into a no-man's land approach wise.

He hit for power in the minors. He was a well rounded hitter, both OBP and power, but more power than OBP.

He did hit for power in the minors and FanGraphs rates his power as 70 grade.  70 grade seems to be aggressive but he apparently does have plus power in there some place.  I'm still waiting to see it.
