Depends - you can if the player will play along. If Kenta wants to keep pitching that would force a DFA.

Harris & Co can't play around here.  Tigers are on fire right now, but they will slump at some point and this division is going to be close - you can't afford throwing games away just to save face.   Swallow your pride, admit you made a mistake and then move on.

I am guessing Chase Lee or Jordan Balazovic are the most likely with Foley being hurt.    Lee's on the 40 man, so he's probably closer.   Montero is a starter and they probably don't want to disrupt that.  Enns has pitched okay, but he's not on the roster.

We have before…

I’ve kind of thought that was the case but it just seems strange. I guess because all the teams cheat like this it’s considered OK.

Maeda is clearly toast. I don’t know whether he’ll be released tonight, but he might be pitching in Japan within a month, if an outright release from a big league team allows him to.

Thing is, who would we bring up? Foley and Guenther are both hurt, and nobody else in that Toledo bullpen has any major league experience. Maybe somebody will be making his major league debut this week.

Michael Fulmer was just DFAd..

Manning. Even as a BP arm.

I don't know if he'd be any good, but putting more energy into him as a starter is getting pretty pointless so there is a certain convergence between a need and the time try it.

We only need a pitcher for mopup duty. Which is kinda tough to stay sharp, only pitching at random times.

It's good to see the team doing everything management has asked them to do. Control the zone, taking the extra base and versatile defense. They seem to hold themselves accountable. Very encouraging and entertaining start to the season.

Adduci used to do it all the time, but that was for himself, not the team.

Even though Adduci senior was an angry drunk I do give him credit for showing his son the ropes and loopholes when it comes to the MLB. He surely was the one that taught him to keep tabs on returning players and to make sure you get "injured" right before they get called back up so you can still collect an MLB paycheck.

I really need the Tigers to win it all soon, so I can get the thought of 2013/big papi out of my mind. It lingers still. The horror.......the horror!!

Darn you heck for reminding me. 😉

In fairness to Jim, when he first came up he didn't know that you could still get paid if you were injured and couldn't play.  As soon as he found our, as fate would have it, they were in LA which is the shortest hitchhiking distance to Vegas so he faked the oblique.  Oblique is beautiful, there isn't an empirical test for it, and I feel that Maeda is soon to suffer an oblique strain.

We know this team pretty well, so we are aware of its imperfections and fret about them — every astute and highly focused fan base is like this — but we’ve got a decent record, we somehow manage to score runs pretty frequently, prevent enough being scored against us, and are not a team to be taken lightly.

Yes we have stars, but we get more out of our entire 26-man roster than other teams do. This didn’t just happen it was done on purpose.

If Hinch doesn’t trust Kent’s  with a six run lead for one inning then we really probably shouldn’t have him on the team

I don’t mind bringing him back to see if last season was a fluke.  His work so far suggests he’s done.  Foley might have been a logical replacement if he hadn’t tweaked his shoulder.  I’d say keep Montero on a SP workload in case he’s needed in that capacity.  There are other RP options on the 40 to call up.  Maybe they’re biding time for one of Guenther/Chafin to be an extra LHRP?
