Jung is starting to really intrigue. Read somewhere that his defense is acceptable at 2B. Could be the answer there.

If he could actually play second base, that would be great.  It didn't sound that way on draft day, it sounded like he was a guy with no position, so another eye-roller pick by the Tigers.  An average defender with consistent power, who can stay in the lineup against lefties, that would be the answer to a prayer.

He’s 26. If he hasn’t figured it out by now unlikely he ever will.

True for some. Yet, baseball is not a game where you have a set roster each year and if lucky a consistent roster on a good team. All teams have a percent of players coming and going to go along with regulars. Many players also figure things out at different stages of their career - even if only for a half season, a couple years, etc. Then more adjustment by the opposition. Baseball is a game of adjustments.

Not saying Maton will or will not 'figure it out' but he might become a useful player for Detroit and or other teams. So many wrote of JCandelario, Willie Castro, etc. the list is endless throughout the years and the latter two are contributing this year on winning teams.

Just saying you have to have a lot of depth in any organization this day and age - and many players can help on a team that is winning or playing it out, even if it is just for a year or two, etc.

In regards to Jung at 2b Bowden says(so take it for fwiw) that what he sees and hears is that Jung doesnt have good range there and certainly is never gonna be plus but he does make the routine plays so he won't kill you if you put him there.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement but it sounds like if you really need to get his bat in the lineup and DH is occupied he can handle himself there if need be but probably not somebody you want to plug there for 150 games.

It sounds like the Tigers have some prospect position players vying for similar roles but are questionable defensively.  Do we see trades this offseason to alleviate that logjam and address other issues?  Or maybe target pitching or other prospects that might not have the same batting acumen but are more well rounded baseball players?

Just not at 3B, please.

He never played so much third base as when he came to the big club. It was a need we had that we hoped he could fill. That’s tough to do at the big league level, and he got raked for it. I’d bet he’ll get some offseason work at third base for one more go at it, but I’d also bet we’ll take a long look at him for second or even short.

Does anyone know what is causing Max Clark's troubles in Lakeland? Trouble hitting fastball, trouble hitting breaking ball, or what? Just puzzling that he was doing so well in rookie league, then so poorly in Low A league, while McGonigle took the higher level in stride.

not sure if this is a serious post or not, but he has played 8 games at Lakeland. No real analysis can take place based on that.
