I disagree.  I think they should treat him like Harper and move him to 1b so they can get the bat to Detroit earlier.

If a guy can catch, I'd keep developing him as a catcher right up to the minute you move him to 1st if you have to. Catchers that can hit above average are too valuable. Teach him 1st but don't move his primary gig.

I think catching affects hitting in a negative way.

What if they try to develop both as Cs with a minor at 1B?  Surely its easier on paper in practice, but if the bats play well enough, is there anything to gain there?  Days at 1B would be less taxing than C.  Maybe it helps with roster construction?  I don't know, just kind of spitballing here.

problem with this is that Briceno has not caught once since his knee injury, and there were already significant questions if he could be competent as a major league C

Develop both at catcher and hope one of them pans out.

could be for some guys, but there certainly have been plenty of good hitting catchers. The thing about batting lineups though is that I would rather upgrade a 600 OPS position to 700 than upgrade an 800 OPS position to 900. I've always thought that holes in the line-up kill your offense more than high spots help it.

If AFL season ended today, Briceno would be MVP. He's leading the league in OPS with a ridiculous 1.500 (Liranzo is third at 1.302)

Pooring cold water as I am wont to do, beware coming to overly positive conclusions here. The hitting environment at AFL is extreme before factoring in that teams are largely not sending their top pitchers.
