Tigermojo Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Their pitcher Miller was named pitcher of the week. 4IP, 1H, 8K. Quote

Dan Gilmore Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Right, plus Josue is the youngest on the list (at least the visible portion). Quote
RatkoVarda Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 would much rather have guys soar than flail in the AFL, but it was surprising that none of the those guys are stars 1 Quote

None of them are really useful comparisons. Quote

Arlington Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Possibly the career peak for all but Flowers and Blalock. Age and OPS distinguish Briceno, but it is far from making him a likely star. It's nice to see. Quote
Arlington Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 I couldn't readily find his stats, but it's good to remember Chris Shelton was the league's MVP in 2004. I wasn't able to watch many games back then so I don't have a good sense of why Shelton failed after his historic start. What the heck happened to one of the hottest rookie starts in Tigers history? Edman85 Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Jake Miller is not rule 5 eligible, contrary to ba. Quote

Shelton was not a rookie in 2006. He had 450+ plate appearances the yearbefore as a 25-year-old and posted a 132 OPS+. He started hot in 2006 but faded in June and July and was sent down at the trade deadline. 106 OPS+ in 2006. Only 150 PAs in MLB after that (with Texas and Seattle; 75ish OPS+). Strange decline but also strange some second division club didn't give him 600 PAs to see if he could rediscover his magic. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Watching Liranzo and I get Kendrys Morales vibes with his build and swing. I'd definitely be ok with it if he turned out to be him at the plate particularly if he does indeed stay at catcher. Quote

Any idea as to what caused the fall-off? Seems like the league figured him out and he couldn't adjust Quote

I had thought Shelton had just disappeared but he did knock around the minors for a couple more seasons and in fact was able to OPS at 950+ twice at AAA only crash on call-up each time. So maybe a mental block thing or maybe he had been right on the edge for handling MLB velo or spin and just fell off at a younger age than most. I've always had a theory about guys having career arcs that start young with great reaction time, then build with strength and eventually fall off as vision as reaction time are lost. A great player may cross those limits at 19 and 40 and have a 20yr HOF career in between, a marginal player may only get a couple of years in his mid to late 20's when he peaks high enough to stay in the majors. Tenacious D Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 No mention yet of the Tigers signing Jahmai Jones to a minor league deal today? Seems like nice insurance in Toledo. Good AAA numbers, bats RH, maybe they can help him. Quote
LongLiveMaroth Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Couple days late here. 3 relief pitchers added to the 40 to save them from the Rule 5. Quote
