I wanted Bregman, but am okay not going overboard and retaining the draft pick.

I also think McGonigle is knocking down the door for this spot later this year.

Do you project that McGonigle is going to rocket through Erie and Toledo to make the big club this season? That would be awesome, but man, that's a big ask.

If he really wanted Bregman, why didn't Harris offer him the opt-out he wanted after year one?

Because he wanted him for two years.  The report was that he offered him an opt out after two years, but Bregman wanted one after one year.   Also, the Red Sox offer was very attractive.   They wanted him too.

I am OK that they didn't get him too.  I am happy that they were seemingly very competive in ther pursuit because it gives me confidence that they won't be cheap in the future.

I am not confident that McGonigle will be a major contributor in the next two years and if he is it wouldn't necessarily conflict with signing Bregman.

I thought we wanted him for six years?

If we really wanted him, we would have offered him his opt out after one year. Just sayin’. But I still think he wouldn’t have taken it, because he wouldn’t put up the same pinball numbers with us he will with Boston so he can take another bite of the apple next winter.

The last I heard was they offered 6 years and a 2 year opt out, but he wanted a 1 year opt out.  Bregman said recently that he thought he was going to be a Tiger 98% of the winter.  Maybe that's just what he said to the Detroit media, but he really didn;t have to say something that specific.  Everything I have read indicates that the Tigers were seiously interested in him.  You may have read different things or interpreted things differently.  We will never know.

For being a weird war that nobody really understands The Crimean War had a lot of impact of media, culture and society:

  •  Flo Nightingale and the institutionalization of battlefield care and nursing and data analysis!
    • Nightingale was an innovator in statistics; she represented her analysis in graphical forms to ease drawing conclusions and actionables from data. She is famous for usage of the polar area diagram, also called the Nightingale rose diagram, which is equivalent to a modern circular histogram. This diagram is still regularly used in data visualisation.
  • Charge of the Light Brigade, "ours is not to question why..."
  • The "Thin Red Line" which originated with war correspondent William Howard Russell's description of the Highlanders as a "thin red streak topped with steel"
  • Placido Polanco in a balaklava waddling around the bases arms raised triumphant when Magglio Ordonez of the King's Own Detroit Guards Grenadiers hit the winning HR against the Oakland Cossacks in 2006.
