what is it they are seeing - or expect to see - from Willi and Victor? just move on, please god, no more

My favorite part of yesterday's game (in a schadenfreude kind way) was Dan Dickerson, during Willi's first AB, hyping up how valuable W. Castro is because he's good at a number of different things, only for the AB to end on him flailing at a 80 MPH curveball for strike three.

Nothing if not predictable.

After all of us are dead and gone future fans and posters will still be debating his worth due the empty babip fueled hot stretches he provides here and there.

They've been around long enough that if they are elected into the hall of fame, they'll be wearing Tiger hats on their plaques.

I suppose it doesnt make it much better but last I checked(maybe a month ago) all the top guys that wouldve been in play at 1 had we not taken Tork have looked terrible as well so perhaps it was just one of those drafts where all the perceived top talent weren't as good as people thought.

Dingler and Crouch should be moved up a level each...and maybe Wenceel.  Sad that you really can't find position players beyond those guys that warrant it right now.

I sure do hope they can fix Tork.  Missing on 1:1 can really F up your rebuilding timeline

P Meadows also could also be close.  Colt Keith likely would have been at AA if not for his injury.  Most of the other guys that were due to be moved up were about 2 weeks ago when this years draft picks joined.

Why does it matter where those guys play the last couple weeks of the season?

Give them a taste of the level you're going to assign them to next year

Does that taste even matter? I think it's something that's long been assumed, but I doubt it does.

For the record, I could see Dingler getting bumped up to Toledo. Ali Sanchez hasn't played in a week or two, and I am guessing they go third catcher in September with either Sanchez or Garneau getting the call to Detroit. Toledo's season extends into September now, so Dingler would be a logical fit to slide in and get some PT. But it isn't like he is banging down the door.

I'm not aware of any postseason bids off hand, but that likely plays a role as well.

Buck Farmer being rostered for almost 10 years without ever once putting up a plus season is absolutely baffling.

Sometimes you'll see that ... but as a reliever that is just mind boggling and unheard of. I guess he did have the "skilll" of ...

Buck Farmer's "skill" was that he could full up innings. Pretty much... that was it.

I've not paid too much attention to standings, but I believe Erie is likely playoff bound. If that's the case, Dingler stays in Toledo, or at least goes back down and plays for them.

Let me clarify because I totally botched the above.....Dingler either just stays in Erie for the playoffs or if he's promoted, he ultimately goes back to Erie for the playoffs.

Which means he likely just stays put. I doubt they'd promote him just to demote him. Especially when they have two catchers doing pretty well in Toledo.

The Org philosophy has always been to keep a player at a level is that team is in the playoffs as they believe it's good for the players development to go through that experience... so you are probably correct...

But also, that was under Avila, maybe that changes? Probably not... just thought I'd mention that...

The GM doesn't make that call

I thought it was.

Who does? Player development?

But also... does the GM set up overall general "rules", in which he would still have influence even if not the call. Or is that PD also?

GM probably has the call on very high level. Director of Minor League Ops (Lunetta) makes the call on promotions and such. Dingler may rise to a higher level since he is priority. But there is more to development than making baseball reference pages shiny.
