Parker has pushed his August OPS over 1000. Nice month.

Tork not quite as hot yet, but he has improved his 598 July OPS at Toledo to 816 for August so he is regaining a little form.

To use a gaming analogy there's only so much XP points in the Meadows family to go around so Austin sacrificed many of his for Parker the last few months and that's why Austin hasn't been able to play meanwhile Parker has been flourishing.

Gio Arriera was cut today. 4th rounder in that oh-so-stellar 2017 Draft. The 2-5 picks are all either retired or released.

That 2017 class was terrible for the Tigers but looking at it as a whole it was terrible across the board atleast up until this point. There's a few guys that are still thought of highly on the prospect lists and or young graduated players so perhaps in the end it ends up better but as of now it has only produced 1 All Star in Trevor Rogers of the Marlins. It looks like it could be just an all around bad batch of players.

What I like about Parker's year is that much like Carpenter his plate discipline has gotten better as the year has gone on atleast according to his k and bb%. It's one thing to just put up better raw numbers but it makes those raw numbers more encouraging when you see the peripherals getting better as well.

Farm rankings, Tigers come in at 22 sandwiched between KC and Minnesota with WS coming in at 26 and Cleveland coming in 3rd. 

"Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson are off prospect lists, yet the Tigers continue their tradition of having first-rounders in the Top 100 with Jobe (2021) and Jung (2022). Right-handers Wilmer Flores and Ty Madden give the club two more Top-100-adjacent talents on the mound. But as a whole, this group lacks the ceiling it had in the preseason when Greene and Torkelson looked like potential stars, and it isn’t deep enough to overcome that and push into the Top 20."

Seems right.... if BA has Flores at 90, then he must be one of the next in line to join once other members graduate.

Tork a double for 3 with a walk and a K, OPS up to .726 in Toledo. Still a ways from where we would hope and expect him to be down there but considering he was in the .400s at one point its nice to see a little progress.

Over 800 for August. Assuming he keeps it up I wonder if they will bring him up again before the end of the season or just leave him there to build confidence the rest of the way.

I'd leave him.  Don't let Coolbaugh near him.  Start over again next spring.

I tend to agree. Whatever seems to in the water in the Tiger hitting room this year, Torkelson probably doesn't need anymore exposure to it.

some of our better starting pitching prospects this season (not including Brieske and Hill).  players are listed with their current team, though most pitched at multiple levels, included in the totals.  Worth noting that Chance Kirby, who hasn't been discussed much, is old (27) for AA:

Ideally, a couple of these guys emerge as rotation options, or can turn into useful bullpen arms.  Combined with some combination of the current mix (Eduardo Rodriguez, Matt Manning, Spencer Turnbull ('23), Brieske ('23), Hill ('23), Faedo ('23), Mize ('24) and Skubal ('23-'24), this has the makings of some good starting pitching depth.  

Even with this potential depth, we will likely need to sign another veteran starter for next season to address all of the injury uncertainty.

I see Toledo's season doesn't end till 9/28 so in that case Id just have him finish out the season there and call it a season. By Sprong training next year that would give him some 7 months away from stinch of the big league coaches which may be enough time for him to revert back to the player we expected him to be. With any luck we'll have some better help for him up here next year too.

Btw my early predictions for either the first or atleast most prominent fluff piece of Spring Training will be about Tork reinventing or finding his old self. He'll be said to be "mashing the ball like he did at ASU" and things of that nature.

There is a different feeling in the clubhouse this Spring that wasn't their last year.  There is a strong team chemistry and winning attitude.  

Victor Reyes put on 15 pounds of muscle and has a new swing.  This is the year he hits 30 home runs.  

Miguel Cabrera lost 20 pounds over the winter and is in the best shape of his life.

McCoskey (paywalled article) lists Meadows, Wenceel, Bergner and Gipson-Long as "on the bubble" to be protected from rule 5.  He protects Kreidler and Olson....leaves Lipcius, DeLa Rosa and Hess out in the cold.

I would definitely put Meadows and Wenceel on the 40 man along with Kreidler and Olson.

De La Rosa as in Eric De La Rosa? He may not even get protected from the AAA Phase.

Anyways, McCosky doesn't know what he is talking about, in general. In the case of SGL, they don't pick him up in the deadline if they don't plan on adding him.
