LongLiveMaroth Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 I had written up a recap of the games but refreshed and all of it was gone so I am just going to do a quick hit instead. TOL: E-Rod with a nice game; Lipcius with another HR and a double. Erie: Hurter living up to his name only goes 2 IP. Workman and Meadows with HR. Workman ended August with a .301/.347/.559 slash line. Meadows for the month of August has a .290/.370/600 slash line. WM: Serretti had 2 doubles and Jung went 0/3 with 2BB. Pacheco went 0/5 with 2 K's Quote

I wonder who, and how that reveals communication/relationship breakdown within the front office. If there was an uprising, is that what finally woke up Illitch? I can't remember if he said it on the podcast, but was the leak contemporaneous or was it something that he learned more recenetly? It sounded to me like it was something that came out after Al's firing, but he never really said it either way. I do think that matters because, again, the interregnum period between GM's is a perfect time to saddle the fired/outgoing GM with blame and grievances and can also be self-serving as well, thinking in terms of guys who may be worried about their own jobs. Don't recall reading that about him prior to the draft and he was universally ranked in the top 7-12 prospects pre draft..... It came from a leaked comment to Cody Stavenhagen from someone inside the org, discussed in his Turning the Corner Podcast this week. Quote
RatkoVarda Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 For those who did not listen: Cody never put it in a story in The Athletic, so take this FWIW. But nerds (20%) wanted Neto, who is at AA for the Angels, over scouts (80) who wanted Jung, even over industry concerns he cannot hit velo which is why he "dropped" to 12. As others said, targeted leaks are done for self-serving reasons. And it is always smart money to bet against each and every prospect, because so many fail outright or fall short for a myriad of reasons. I would have preferred Neto as he might be able to stay at SS. And at this point Serretti looks to be a first ballot HOF, so SSS can be both painful and fun. Quote

Wow I thought he dropped due to fielding concerns. So he can’t field or hit ? What’s left ? Call Al and fire 🔥 him again 😊 Quote

Did you accidentally mix up the 20 and 80? I could have sworn it was 80% Neto, but Avila/Chadd overruled. Quote
mtutiger Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 It was 80/20 Neto over Jung according to whoever leaked to Cody, iirc. Quote

Edman85 Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 My guess is it was Sartori who leaked it, but I could be wrong. Menzin doesn't seem like the type who would do that and I've heard some things about Sartori's people skills that hew too closely to how I would react in that situation, which would be to leak that to a reporter. 1984Echoes Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Olson pitched a nice game at Erie: 6 inn's, 9 K's, 3 hits 1 BB, 2 ER's. The bad: also 2 wild pitches and gave up a HR... Nothing much else interesting at Erie... Workman popped another HR and they won 3-2... Quote
LongLiveMaroth Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Since @1984Echoes already took care of Erie I won't include them but here are some quick hits. Toledo L 17-0 I mean look at the score, I would assume this was a football game. Lipcius with another double though West Michigan W 5-2 - This one was bit better, Serretti still on fire in High-A went 3/5 with an RBI but was picked off and caught stealing. Jung went 2/5 with 2 doubles but 3K's. Crouch went 2/4 after being named the midwest leagues best defensive catcher among league managers. Pacheco went 1/4 with an RBI. Lakeland trying to get a DH in got rained/lightning out again after the end of the 2nd. They are currently up 5-0. Graham is 2/2 with a 2B so far. Troy Melton 4th round pick from this years draft had a solid line of 2 IP 1H 4K's in his first professional action. Quote
1984Echoes Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Nice game by Madden! I keep forgetting to put him in my 2023 Rotation consideration but, really... he needs to be included. Might not make it out of Spring Training (most likely won't) but he still has to be in consideration. 1 Quote

RandyMarsh Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 I have no idea how he actually looks but I assume the stuff is looking good but either way it's nice to see Madden finishing up his first pro season strong. Quote

Well here's all the strike 3s. The fastball appears to have life to it that plays above the MPH since he was getting whiffs in the zone but that could just be the AA batters, I'm going to be optimistic and say that isn't the reason. 1984Echoes Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 I love the life on his pitches...!!! They all seem to have just a little bit of "wiggle" to them that makes the batters miss... Quote
RandyMarsh Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Jim Bowden put out his list of "10 pitchers primed to make his top 50 in 2023" and Flores was one of them. If that comes to fruition and Jobe progresses along with Madden and we could be having ourselves a Big 3 Part Deux. 1 Quote
