IdahoBert Posted yesterday at 07:00 PM Posted yesterday at 07:00 PM Did Torres valiantly force the throw to second to let the run score or did he just get greedy? Quote
chasfh Posted yesterday at 07:02 PM Posted yesterday at 07:02 PM We got a little lucky on that Baez tag up from first to second on the flyout to right. If the throw were on the bag, he was doubled off by a mile. But it wasn't, because the Tigers' new calculation is that in the end, we will net more bases and runs being very aggressive on the bases than by being moderate and advancing only on sure things—that by putting pressure on the defense, we will gain more bases than lose outs. And it worked this time, because we got another run out of it. I like this new strategy, and I hope I'm cognizant enough to remember that I like it when it inevitably happens that it looks like we took a stupid chance and made an out or even lost a game because of the aggressiveness. Agreed. You can look at all the statistics you want, but the defenders still have to execute. The throw needs to be good and the infielder still has to catch it/hold onto it and make a tag. There’s a lot that can potentially go wrong with all of that- as we saw with that Javy play Quote
holygoat Posted yesterday at 07:09 PM Posted yesterday at 07:09 PM It was a calculated risk, with the outfielder running away from the play. I want him to take that risk in that situation. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted yesterday at 07:11 PM Posted yesterday at 07:11 PM Say his name and he appears! I believe in McKinstry! Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 07:11 PM Posted yesterday at 07:11 PM 11Ks for Skubal through 6. Quote
chasfh Posted yesterday at 07:12 PM Posted yesterday at 07:12 PM Four hits, no runs, eleven strikeouts and no walks on 91 pitches through six. He's got to come out for the seventh, right? Who do we have that's available, besides Maeda? Guenther again? Chase Lee again? They are still optionable and we need the guys we won't be optioning to get a breather after yesterday, right? I think he comes out in the seventh to see if he can get three quick outs. Tell you what, though: I'd like to put up another four or five runs here so we can get GarbageTime-san into the game to eat up some outs. Quote
Tigermojo Posted yesterday at 07:13 PM Posted yesterday at 07:13 PM Newsflash McKinstry bonesaw. Quote
holygoat Posted yesterday at 07:13 PM Posted yesterday at 07:13 PM Zach Gibson with another XBH Quote
chasfh Posted yesterday at 07:15 PM Posted yesterday at 07:15 PM Man, Laureano sure did make that one close at third on McKinstry. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted yesterday at 07:19 PM Posted yesterday at 07:19 PM In this situation I’d be ok with Skubal at least starting the 7th inning Quote
chasfh Posted yesterday at 07:22 PM Posted yesterday at 07:22 PM Good news, got another run. Bad news, Sweeney is starting to suck a lot more in every aspect of his game. Quote
IdahoBert Posted yesterday at 07:23 PM Posted yesterday at 07:23 PM Oh my heck 5-0! We’re closing in on the sacred number six! Quote
holygoat Posted yesterday at 07:24 PM Posted yesterday at 07:24 PM LOL, Sweeney. That sucks, but I like the decision to just break for home after over-sliding 3rd. Quote
IdahoBert Posted yesterday at 07:24 PM Posted yesterday at 07:24 PM Sean Guenther replaces Tarik Skubal. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted yesterday at 07:25 PM Posted yesterday at 07:25 PM Sorry, Sanchez did NOT give him a lane there. I think he would have been out anyway, but still. Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 07:26 PM Posted yesterday at 07:26 PM Boston socking it to the Guardians, 8-0. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted yesterday at 07:27 PM Posted yesterday at 07:27 PM The home plate blocking rule is entirely vibes based. They wanted to get collisions out of the game so they wrote the most subjective standard possible. Survey every MLB umpire in a vacuum, and it's probably a 60-40 split whether that was illegal or not. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted yesterday at 07:30 PM Posted yesterday at 07:30 PM Nice inning Guenther! Can definitely go at least one more Quote
chasfh Posted yesterday at 07:31 PM Posted yesterday at 07:31 PM OK, so Guenther got through the seventh in eleven pitches. I think he could come back out for the eighth with Lee up and throwing. Again, would love to put up a three- or four-spot and get Maeda in. Quote
