He was never the same after he started living in the Browns stadium.   That can really mess with a guy.

Well, he didn't really live there.  It was just for the commercial.    (No Sarcasm Guy)

I wonder if the 49ers grab him as their new backup.    I know he's bad, but he does have experience and the 49ers don't need QBs to do much.

I guess the Jimmy G injury is a YEAR not the rest of the Season, so he won't even be back until halfway next season (where he plays).

I guess the Jimmy G injury is not as severe as first thought and he avoided the devastating lisfranc foot injury. I haven't heard if he is out for the season but if he is it sounds like he will certainly be back by the start of next one.

This kind of sounds serious?

According to this site it may not be a hugely serious thing.  The devil's in the details of course... how bad is the bruise?  How bad are Stafford symptoms?  It doesn't sound like a career ender, but then again this is just after 3 minutes of reading on some random medical website.

McVay said Stafford was pulled in his last game because he had numbness in his legs. He had back issues in Detroit as well. I keep thinking of Mike Utley and Reggie Brown. This doesn't seem good.

I recently saw some comments from his wife on her podcast. She seemed concerned, especially about his health down the road. One may wonder if she might be trying to persuade him to consider retirement.

So... if he retired after the 2022 season... is he considered for the HOF?

Off the top of my head I'd say no.  He played in relative obscurity in Detroit... he had a great 2021 obviously and has a SB ring, but lots of players had one great year.  Sure you can point to some good stats from his Detroit days, but I don't think that, combined with 2021, would be enough.

Now, does this motivate Stafford to come back to prove that he wasn't just a one-hit wonder? I don't know if this matters to him or not. I think all professional athletes have some level of wanted to prove that they belong. I think they need that to be able to achieve the level they do.  But there's also a difference between a 22 year old fresh in the league and a 30+ year old who's abused his body for decades and have a family now.

We’ve had this debate before but Matt Ryan and Phillip Rivers are in the same group as Stafford, all with very similar career numbers.  Now that he’s a SB champ, Stafford could maybe get in where those other guys don’t get the shot but I don’t see any way that the other 2 are in and Stafford is not.    I personally believe that all 3 will get in.  Ryan needs to retire after this year though.

Stafford is at 52k yards now. 11th all time, and 12k behind Rivers, 10k behind Matt Ryan, 6k behind Rodgers. I’m assuming Stafford will need to get to 60k — two more 4k seasons — and one more playoff run to get serious consideration.

This would be real hard to carry out but from a narrative perspective, if he came back in 2025 or 2026 to lead Detroit to a Super Bowl he would be in for sure for ending the curse of Bobby Layne.
