I think players want to play for people they like more than they want to play for a jerk who knows football. So the survey doesn’t surprise me. I don’t put any stock into though. Players don’t pick coaches. I think Ben Johnson is more likely to be hired than Glenn for a HC job. 1 Quote
lordstanley Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 This increases the chances of GB getting the #6 seed over the Rams. Rams resting Matthew Stafford, putting potential playoff tilt vs. Lions in flux https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2024/01/03/los-angeles-rams-reportedly-resting-matthew-stafford-detroit-lions/72098235007/ Quote
1984Echoes Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I'd rather have the Rams... It'd just be so much more fun... Quote

MichiganCardinal Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I think the odds of Jordan Love repeating his performance from Thanksgiving in the wildcard game are not great. That's why I would prefer the Packers, though both are dangerous teams. It would also be fun to end the Packers season two seasons in a row. 1 Quote

I think that's generally the case no matter who we play, unless by some crazy stretch of fate we get New Orleans, Minnesota, or Tampa. In any event, whether we play the Rams or Packers... or the outside chance against the Seahawks... or the Cowboys, Eagles, or Niners beyond that... we will need Glenn's Dallas defense, not his Los Angeles, Thanksgiving, or Chicago defense. Motown Bombers Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 One good thing is outside of Hurts there are no QBs with the kind of mobility that have hurt the Lions in the past. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I don't think there is any possible way the Lions can play Tampa or New Orleans as the 3 seed. Quote

Not as the three. As the three-seed it's either Rams or Packers. As the two-seed it could be the Rams, Packers, Seahawks, Saints, or Bucs. The Vikings have a 1% chance at the 7-seed, but they would have to beat us first, making us the 3-seed. I like this graphic I found. I don't know if it incorporates sitting starters into its percentages or not, but it has it as a coin flip between the Packers and Rams right now for the 6-seed. MichiganCardinal Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Here is is for the AFC if anyone was curious. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I think the Rams sitting their starters is a slight nod of respect to us FWIW... A 7-seed has yet to beat a 2-seed since they expanded the playoffs. If McVay thought there was a significant difference between playing the Cowboys and playing the Lions, they could play their starters and probably easily beat the 49ers backups for the 6-seed. I don't think he'll try to lose for the 7-seed or anything crazy, but I don't think he's any more afraid of going into Dallas than he is of going into Detroit. Quote

RandyMarsh Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 I've said before that I not only feel that Glenn IS a great coach but would make a great head coach. Do I agree with his schematics and play calling? Not necessarily but I do think as an actual coach he has done a great job. Under Glenn's guidance a number of players have taken major steps forward as players along with players playing above their NFL expectations based off of their draft position and draft scouting report and to me that falls on the actual coaching and development you receive. The trend is to hire hot shot offensive minds but I think hiring somebody like Glenn and pairing him with a great offensive mind at offensive coordinator could end up being the ideal move if you are a franchise looking for a HC. Now obviously I want the Lions to win so I'd prefer which ever team we think we have a better shot at. But, at least as far as I'm looking it would probably be very similar to either, in which case I want the Rams cause I would be so much more upset if we lost to the Packers twice, at home, and one of those was knocking us out of the playoffs. If other guys were there to help collapse the pocket where the QB couldn't go anywhere he'd probably have atleast another half dozen or so sacks this year. 1 Quote

Motown Bombers Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 I've been thinking back on Holmes first draft since we now have three seasons in the books. Holmes drafted a total of 7 players. 5 of them are currently starters on a team that has 11 wins and a division title. One of the 2 that's not a starter was a 7th round pick. The other looks like the only bust. Quote

But I'll wait until he's released and proven that he's not a Melifonwu-late-bloomer-after-getting-past-injuries player... Quote
