I had this same thought when I saw he was canned. I think he could be a good addition in an advisory role of some sort, as long as it isn’t creating a “too many cooks” situation.

Unless Dorsey moves on, put me in the  too many cooks camp.  They have plenty of good voices in the room now.

Future power in the division will come down to who finds the top tier QB first.  The Bears have taken first shot with Fields and we will see where that goes.   He could be the one.    I’d put them ahead of the Lions in their rebuild at the moment but that could very, very easily change if Fields isn’t a guy.    I don’t out any value in Love.   I could be very wrong but don’t think he’s their guy and they will be back in the hunt in a few years.

the bears are old at every position BUT qb.  their offensive line is trash.  montgomery is good but he's a rb and doesnt matter.  they have one really good receiver who is about to be a free agent and leave.  quinn just had a career year in his mid 30s.  mack is now in his 30s.  both are paid very highly.  other than roquan smith their defense is old and getting worse.

the bears took their shot when they traded for mack.  they went 12-4 and won the division and were a double doink field goal away from the nfc championship game.  problems at qb killed them.

but unless fields turns out to be deshawn watson minus the need for rub and tugs, theyre not in a good place in the rebuild with the rest of their team.

Rumors are that he wasn’t sold on Tua and that has impacted his relationship with the FO.  Management is apparently all in on Tua.

flores won 9 games with a qb who cant throw past 5 yards.  that's pretty good.

If the Bears knock their coaching hire out of the park, and they are able to immediately turn around Fields’ performance, they have the potential to be ahead of Detroit. However, I would put the chances of that below 50%.

It’s hard to plug-and-play success in the NFL, especially with the roster around Fields. And if he struggles again next year, the new regime won’t hesitate to cut loose of him, blame the old regime, and get “their guy”. The NFL is a dog-eat-dog world and the new coach and GM will ditch Fields in a heartbeat if it means they have a better chance of getting more time as a head coach and GM.

The Bears coming into this season were the 2nd oldest team in the league. Their defense was the oldest in the league. They've traded away multiple 1st round picks. The Lions meanwhile were the 2nd youngest in the league and have multiple 1st round picks. Unless Fields becomes an absolute stud, I think the Lions can over take the Bears even with Goff.

Don't know how true it was but I found it amusing that the Dolphins owner essentially said he wouldn't go after Harbaugh cause as a UM alum he doesn't want to disrupt their program.

If he means that then that is serious dedication to your school that you would risk not taking what's best for the team you own cause you don't want to mess with your school.

In inflation adjusted dollars he may have as much invested at UM as he does with the Dolphins.  🤔

He owns the UM team too.    He’s one of the biggest college football boosters anywhere.

Fairly high chances imho.

Why do you say that?

Because of Chris?

I don't see it... unless he's an amazing offensive guru that can come in as OC and help mentor Campbell, which I highly doubt Rick would agree to since he should be getting some other head coaching offers methinks, or front office offers... chances are close to nil, just on a guess.

Rick Spielman did work in the Lions front office back in the 90's. There's a connection there so I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think Brian Flores will be on the beach for long.

There are some other openings coming.  I think Pete Carroll will retire in Seattle.   I thin Joe Judge will be out once the new GM comes in (I can't believe he is still employed at 8:34 this Monday).      I think Flores could be up for one of those jobs.  If the Raiders don't extend their coach, they are insane.

Just for Snits & Giggles,   Coaching Carousel Predictions

CHICAGO - At one time I would have guessed Ryan Day, but after the disaster of Urban Meyer, they will probably stay away from a college coach going to the NFL.   So I will guess Todd Bowles, which feels like a very Bears hiring to me.

DENVER - Eric Beineimy -  He finally gets his shot in the state where he went to college. Will he work well with Aaron Rodgers?

JACKSONVILLE -  Byron Leftwich - Seems like a great story.  I think the Anti-Urban, Jim Caldwell, would be a better fit here.

MIAMI - Brian Daboll - He knows the division and knows the team owner already

MINNESOTA - Brian Flores - Won't be on the beach for long (and shouldn't be)

NY GIANTS - Doug Pederson -  Bad ending in Philly shouldn't stain him forever.  The Giants won't spend big on a head coach.  If not him it will be someone like Leslie Frazier, Jim Caldwell or Josh McDaniels - someone who has been a head coach before.  I guess it depends on who the GM is.

SEATTLE - If Pete Carroll 'retires', I think it's Kellen Moore.  Hot name, Home state.   Team going into a full rebuild when Russ leaves...

Starting QBs in 2022

Buffalo - Josh Allen
Miami - Tua
New England - Mac Jones
NY Jets - Zach Wilson

Baltimore - Lamar Jackson
Cincinnati - Joe Burrow
Cleveland - Baker Mayfield (they draft Desmond Ridder)
Pittsburgh - Russell Wilson

Indianapolis - Carson Wentz  (they get Teddy Bridgewater as backup)
Houston - Davis Mills
Jacksonville - Trevor Lawrence
Tennessee - Ryan Tannehill

Denver - Aaron Rodgers
Kansas City - Patrick Mahomes
Las Vegas - Derek Carr
Los Angeles - Justin Herbert

Dallas - Dak Prescott
NY Giants - Matt Coral
Philadelphia - Jalen Hurts
Washington - Taylor Heinicke (they draft Sam Howell)

Chicago - Justin Fields
Detroit - Jared Goff   (Ryan Fitzpatrick or Kyle Allen is the backup)
Green Bay - Jimmy Garoppolo
Minnesota - Kirk Cousins

Atlanta - Matt Ryan  (they will draft Malik Willis)
Carolina - Kenny Pickett (Sam Darnold)
New Orleans - Taysom Hill
Tampa Bay - Tom Brady

Arizona -Kyler Murray
Los Angeles - Matthew Stafford
San Francisco - Trey Lance
Seattle - Jameis Winston (they draft Carson Strong)

Given how many teams make the playoffs in the NFL each year, it is pretty sad that the Jets have more than decade since last appearance.  Heck if the Lions have less than half as many years since they've been in that your team has made it then you KNOW your team sucks.

you know they were royally pissed off, because they provided a very long, very detailed explanation about why they were not pissed off.

In case anyone (like me) never saw the video of the Eagles war room, check it out here, near the end of the article.  It's well worth the watch.
