I actually turned on the game for a (very) short period of time last night and right away turned it off.

This is an interesting idea, but does the winner or the loser get the first pick?  If it's the loser than I anticipate it being a pretty dull game as well.

My suggestion, years ago, was that pro-bowl nominee get to pick any college player of the same position to play for them in the pro-bowl.  They mentor the player for the week or so leading up to the game.  The benefits:

  • College Players get a chance to show of their skills to more NFL coaches/front offices.
  • Pro-Players get a chance to showcase people they believe are deserving (either from their college or hometown or highschool or whatever).  My hope would be that these wouldn't be the star players that everyone is talking about but rather players who might be 3rd day draft picks or even UDFA types.  This will probably be semi-self regulating in that the top name players will not want to play in the game for fear of risk of injury.
  • Pro-players get a small taste of coaching and are able to show up their potential future coaching skills to NFL front offices
  • The game will hopefully be more entertaining.  It may not be hugely popular with the fans, but I doubt it'll be any less popular that it is right now.

I had to go back and chuck. Until the mid '70s the NFL Champion and a College All Star team played an exhibition game just before the season started. It was a charity affair in Chicago.

Why not revive something like that instead of the Pro Bowl or the College Pre Draft game. One of the high draft teams vs a team of prospects.

players dont even attend bowl games anymore because they dont want to get hurt, why would they play in an all star game against professionals?

the whole thing is dumb.  its a violent sport with a high risk of injury and these players make millions of dollars.  why risk it for an "all star game"?

they play the game because people watch it (which is amazing to me why anyone would watch that stupid game but people do).  nobody wants to play in it and it shows by just how ridiculous it is.

For a few years as a kid, my parents would throw me a birthday party on the Pro Bowl.

It worked because we weren’t cool enough to pull people away from Super Bowl parties, you could make it Hawaiian themed, and it’s just on in the background while you do party things.

The product has gotten worse though in the last ten years. Just the lowlights I saw on social media told me that. Their best bet if they’re insistent on keeping it is to lean into the skills competition portion and make the game itself a charity flag football game, akin to the charity softball game that MLB pulls off. If you’re going to be a gimmick, just say so.

This sounds like exactly that: their best bet.

So the Saints are the last opening left, did they ever name any finalists or anything? Just curious if Glenn is still considered a serious possibility for them.

Bienemy interviewed for nine hours yesterday and they’ve concluded their first round of interviews, which included 6 candidates… Glenn reportedly “impressed” them in his but I don’t know how much that actually means.
