RandyMarsh
I question the legitimacy of McDaniel's biracial claim as well. I personally have never seen a bi racial person look like him before. My nephew's Mother(brother's wife) is bi racial so that would make my nephew what 25% black?and even at that you can see the black genes in him unlike with McDaniel. Idk perhaps he really is but either way it shouldn't change the fact that I highly doubt there is any way he has faced any sorta prejudice or racism in his life looking the way he does. True, he's probably never been treated the way most Black people have been treated. I hope he does well, but calling him a "minority hire" is like getting a college scholarship because you are 1/16th Native American. Doesn't mean you lived that life. Motown Bombers
My mother is Italian and darker skinned than McDaniel. The 49ers are getting comp picks for this hire so I think it is valid to question whether he is biracial.

buddha
look at you white people judging who is biracial and who isnt. calm yourselves! i have two biracial daughters. one is dark skinned with brown hair and the other is white as a ghost with red hair. and yes, they are both mine. 😠 genes work in mysterious ways. MichiganCardinal
It all goes back to the NFL trying to make objective an inherently subjective experience. It has to be done somewhere, but it doesn’t actually help the problem. I recall Elizabeth Warren releasing a DNA test a few years ago that said she had maybe some Cherokee in her dating back 6-10 generations. It backfired on her big time. Because who cares? It’s about experience, and one’s experience is oftentimes dictated by color of your skin, not by ancestry percentages. I get that to provide objective compensation to teams, you have to have objective standards. But it’s not as easy as X=Y. It’s why I’d prefer a committee approach. Glad they are treated the same. That is surprising. Not the kids, so much, but the grown ups, who can be extremely ugly. I am guessing the kids that know your girls have known them for so long that they KNOW them. I used to work with a record person named Laura Kim, I think she was with Columbia in New York. She got her start in radio working for 97X (BAM, THE FUTURE OF ROCK & ROLL), which is in Oxford, (Miami University). She used to tell me about the horrible things that people said to her because she was Chinese and it just floored me. Since the first 20 times I spoke to her was over the phone I didn't even think about that. American born. American mother. Grew up in Chicago, I think. Didn't matter, some people would take one look at her and just say terrible things and make terrible assumptions. Some would speak to her like English was her second language and that was usually not mean, but embarrassing for both parties but others would say intentionally ugly things. But she was only treated that was because of how she looked, before anyone even attempted a conversation with her. It's a sickness.

Motown Bombers
Colts should have ponied up for Stafford. They traded a 1st round pick for Wentz.

Young peope today are usually more comfortable around people of different races than adults. Most people are not intentionally racist today, but they make assumptions about Blacks and Hispanics which can make their lives difficult. Of course I care for who has experiences in the BIPOC community. They are vastly underrepresented and undervalued in today's workforce and we should be working diligently to add those experiences across the workforce - NFL, politics, corporate America, and beyond. I'm saying that I don't care if Warren happens to have somewhere between 0.19% and 1.56% Native American within her, just as I don't care if Mike McDaniel has a similar amount of African in him (though that his father identifies as black says it's likely more). Without getting too political, Warren released it as a "told you so" to Trump, after having marked that she was Native American on her 1986 Bar Exam, to prove that she was in fact technically Native American. It wasn't some holier-than-thou demonstration of the absurdity of genetic makeup tests. As I said, when you're awarding objective compensation (draft picks), you have to have something of an objective standard, which in this case has been that McDaniel identifies as biracial, because his father is black. More important than that though is experience, of which I believe McDaniel's (born and raised in suburban Colorado, attended Yale) is categorically different from say Mike Tomlin or Eric Bienemy. In America, your social race characterization will be based on your skin tone, despite the fact that is too small set of genetic markers to effectively characterize what part of the world a person's ancestors came from, and despite that the whole notion that that should mean anything is absurd. Motown Bombers
Perhaps, but I don't like the fact that Los Angeles just feels entitled to a football team. The NFL did just fine without Los Angeles for 20 years so I really don't care about their market size.
