Motown Bombers Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 I wouldn't sleep on the Falcons. Atlanta is close to North Carolina where Johnson is from but he wouldn't have to coach the Panthers. He could also hire Staley for assistant. The Falcons have some interesting pieces. I could see them going after someone like Cousins or Wilson as a stopgap until they develop another QB. The Chargers have Herbert but they have an aging and underperforming roster that is up against the cap. Quote

Sucks for St. Brown but let's face it who really cares about the Pro Bowl anyway unless you have a contract incentive tied to it? St. Brown cared, a lot. He made a big point of saying how "hot" he was about not being selected, the man thrives on being overlooked. He's very much in that Michael Jordan mold of insane competitor that looks for any little reason to be extra motivated. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Hutchinson has about as many pressures as Thibodeaux and Walker combined. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 How does Arthur Smith get fired in Atlanta but not their GM. Was Smith the one who demanded they draft Desmond Ridder as their QB of the future or does their GM get blame in that too? I don't see how you can fire Smith if their GM was behind drafting Ridder and saddling that organization with him as the QB. Had they drafted Fields instead of Kyle Pitts maybe their prospects would be better. Also, it seems at least so far, Martin Mayhew is still with Washington as their GM. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 I like looking at all these other teams with the smug satisfaction that the Lions are better run than they are. Quote

This isn't taking into account impact in the running game where Hutchinson is a MAJOR factor. Don't know about the other two but I have a hard time believing that many in the league or as impactful as Hutch against the run. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 I'll go out on a limb and say none of them have close to as many interceptions as Hutchinson does. Quote

buddha Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 from what i read, it was the entire offense that agreed to do it, not just jameis. jameis will be in the league next year. noted ass hole carson wentz played this year. talent wins. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 In 2021, there were 7 head coaches hired. 3 of those 7 remain with Campbell, Sirianni and Saleh. Saleh is hanging on by a thread and I would not be shocked if Sirianni got fired if the Eagles flopped in the playoffs. Sports Illustrated graded the coaching hires and Campbell received the second worst grade. Only David Culley got a worse grade. Sirianni got the 3rd worst grade. The highest grade hire was Saleh with Staley earning an A-. Urban Meyer was 4th with a B+ grade. Grading every 2021 NFL head coach hire - Sports Illustrated 2 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 In terms of coaching grades during their first season, Campbell was the worst graded coach earning an F and Staley was the best with a B. Motown Bombers Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 "The Lions went from the defensive-minded, player-unfriendly Matt Patricia to the offensive-minded, rah-rah Campbell. Campbell, 44, has entrusted just-fired Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn as offensive coordinator and former Saints assistant Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator. First off, Detroit shouldn't have been roasted for hiring Campbell vs. a minority coach, given that it also hired two minority coordinators along with new GM Brad Holmes, the Rams' former college scouting director. Second, with that out of the way, Campbell and Lynn also are presented with an immediate big challenge with the looming transition from quarterback Matthew Stafford to likely a rookie. The other hires were based on scheming brilliance and staffing experience, while Campbell, the one-time Dolphins interim head coach, is somewhere in limbo on that spectrum. He's a wild card like Meyer, only with nothing close to the same individual winning resume. Someone had to be last and, given how good this round of hires feels, Campbell is that guy." Jason_R Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Also, there was great consternation that Sheila didn’t hire a GM first and allow the GM to hire the coach. There was related consternation that Rod Wood was involved in the hiring process and that Chris Spielman had an undefined role. Sheila didn’t do what everyone thought she should do, and she didn’t do it the way everyone thought she should do it. But it has worked. This franchise has gone from having the worst ownership in the NFL to among the best in the span of just a few years. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 I remember the Rod Wood derangement. Good times. I am impressed with how well Campbell and Holmes seems to fit together and their chemistry. I watched the entire press conference with Campbell and he talked a lot about strategy but the media only latched on to the kneecap soundbite. Campbell is smarter than people give him credit for. Ironically, he's who I thought Patricia would be. Quote
