The Lions aren't losing to Tampa at home, no way no how. I'll stake my reputation on this and guarantee a win this weekend.

That's exactly what I said .. in 1982.

But in all seriousness, this is a dream situation for the Lions. Home playoff game vs a 9-8 team to advance to the NFC championship game. And despite Love's talents, I'll nonetheless be cheering for the Pack on Saturday. A Packers @ Lions matchup in the NFC championship game would pretty much be the most anticipated event in Detroit sports history.

I would never presume to second guess you lordstanley, but by far the most anticipated event in Detroit sports history was Joe Louis v Max Schmeling 2. No Lions game would ever come close to that. The whole world watched that fight.

And in my lifetime, the biggest, most anticipated event in Detroit sports history was Thomas Hearns v Ray Leonard I. That fight wasn’t just a Detroit sports event, or even a national one. It was a massive, global sports event

hearns hagler also.

red wings game 4 against the flyers was the most anticipated event in my lifetime, followed closely by michigan beating washington last week.

tigers game 5 against the padres is up there too.

the lions in the nfc championship game would top them all (yes, yes, they were there in 91 but we all knew they had no chance against the skins).  lions in the super bowl would be the apocalypse.

Several years I put together an audio file I entitled "80 Years of Classic Detroit Sports Memories" (I have an updated version ready to go). Clips of 65 big moments, 1935-2014.

You can hear the climax of Schmeling-Louis II at the 1:32 mark. Hearn's knockout of Duran is around the 31:30 mark.

RD 1 Hearns /Hagler may be the best round in boxing history..

This is the most highly anticipated event in my lifetime and I go back to the early 70's.

87 Piston playoff run was something..they filled the dome (basket ball config) against the Celtics and really had a lot of buzz

Siriani did just take them to a Super Bowl so even though the collapse is of epic proportions I would think long and hard about pulling the trigger. I mean hypothetically what if the same thing were to happen to us next year would that mean that Campbell should be gone?

That’s what I was thinking, they may give Sirianni a what-was-I-thinking mulligan and clean out the dregs under him, starting with you know who.

I think the games now top them all.  Saturday's game, followed by Sunday's game. The NFL is different.  Especially today's NFL.

I think that in terms of volume and intensity.

And I say this as baseball/hockey guy over football.

PATRICIA !!!

I wanted the Lions to destroy him next week, but it's still pretty sweet watching his defense meltdown.

By the way, those players gave a piss-poor effort last night.  They hate him and they don't play for him - just like here.

Can't argue with that.

Regardless, the Lions aren't losing to Tampa no way no how. I will stake my....poor reputation on it 😉
