Hongbit Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 My gut is that Ben is going to be a terrible head coach and will be the latest example of the NFL’s Peter Principle problem regarding head coaches. Quote

I think the Dan Campbell coaching tree will generally be a good one. His style is based primarily off of quality leadership instead of pure Xs and Os, which I think is more apt to be successful. CMRivdogs Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Could it be the GM/Head Coach relationship ala Rams, Lions, etc become the next big thing in the NFL? Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 The Lions seemed different in that it was an arranged marriage between head coach and general manager and not the GM picking the head coach. 1 Quote

Yeah, and people beat up Sheila and Rod for doing it that way. And people questions bringing in Chris Spielman and wondered what his role was or if he was a third wheel. But in retrospect they could not have done any better than they did. Quote

CMRivdogs Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 I'm fairly sure Holmes was clued in on the head coach search when he went thru the hiring process and likely had some veto power. Otherwise why would he take the job? https://www.mlive.com/lions/2021/01/lions-brad-holmes-and-dan-campbell-already-evaluating-players-finishing-each-others-sentences.html Quote Holmes was hired last week and was virtually introduced on Tuesday afternoon. His introductory press conference occurred before Campbell’s hiring was official, so Holmes couldn’t speak on the team’s new coach. Team president Rod Wood said Holmes was involved in the later stages of the coaching search, though, reaching out to a handful of finalists. Wood noted that Holmes made those calls, did his research and came to the same conclusion as the team’s brass: “Dan Campbell should be the next head coach of the Detroit Lions.” “We did have Brad involved kind of behind the scenes in this, so his voice was listened to, and I would say it was impactful when he came to the same conclusion that we did that Dan should be our head coach,” Wood said. “It may have been an odd process, but I think it resulted in an outstanding result.” Quote

1984Echoes Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 On a WAG... I think Aaron Glenn is going to lose out on a "one more year to prove yourself on the ability to develop a top-notch defense"; and that we're going to lose Ben Johnson, most likely to the Commanders IMO. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I'm really not surprised. Jerry Jones stuck with Jason Garrett a long time. Quote

Sports_Freak Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I hear Buffalo is in line for another huge snowstorm. 3 feet of snow every week? Detroit won't be able to bail them out this time. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Can't they just move the game to the Meadowlands? Quote

RandyMarsh Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Rogers Centre in Toronto possibly?? Of course with it being so close to Buffalo it may be getting hit with the same storms so it could present some logistical problems for fans or the commute but atleast the game would be indoors. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Whatever we do, let’s make sure the problem persists for the next 50+ years by building the next stadium outdoors too. Quote
