I'm not going to read too much into a rookie QB looking like a rookie QB before Training Camp even opens. That said, as a Lions fan I'm certainly happier that he looks like a rookie QB rather than a phenom who's picking up the NFL game from day 1. Even if Williams looks terrible this year I wouldn't write him off. Quote

You know the last time that a city had three titles from the same sports season, right? We absolutely want that as long as one of those teams is not the Cowboys. It would look so bad on them. Can’t call yourself America’s team anymore if you’re the least successful team in your own city. Quote

The only time in history that one city has won the championship game/series in three of the major four sports in North America was in 1935/36. No other city has done that since then nor before*. Even more amazing, this was the FIRST Championship for each of those teams, all back-to-back-to-back. And this doesn't even count the fact that this city also boasted the a minor hockey league champion, home of the reigning power boat champions, home of AP athlete of the year along with dozens and dozens of other minor sports champions ranging from tennis to checkers to horse racing. So amazing was this sports feat that the city was nicknamed the City of Champions. Now, do we really want Dallas to be able to try to claim 3 of the major 4 championships? Do we really want Dallas to try to claim to be on the same level of one season of sports greatness like Detroit is? *The before part here is somewhat debated because what was defined as a "major sports league" was somewhat nebulous in the early 1900s but the key part here is winning the championship game/series. The NFL, prior to the early 1930s didn't have a championship game. The team with the best record was declared the champion prior to this. There were no playoffs. Quote
Hongbit Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 I get what you are saying but don’t fear. Nobody in this day and age would be stupid enough to claim that title without an NFL championship. You’ve got to have that in the mix. Quote
Hongbit Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 I like Nico and three years from now this could very well end up being a complete steal of a contact but that’s an awful lot of money to commit to a player with one season of solid work. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 If they thought Nico was a $24MM wide receiver, why pay Stefon Diggs $23MM? Who I’m sure will throw a fit when he learns he’s not the highest paid receiver on his own team. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 A mildly interesting offseason watch. This dude (a Michigan native and Lions fan) creates videos at NFL stadiums generally centered around seeing how long he can stay before he gets "kicked out of" (asked to leave) a stadium, or - with college stadiums - videos where he tries to find unlocked gates and enter the stadiums. In everything I've seen, he's respectful, and while he tries to avoid personnel, he doesn't disturb anything, just videos the stadium, and leaves when he's told to leave. He gets formally ejected from Lucas Oil Stadium here, and this video provides a pretty interesting insight on what the process is for people who the NFL kicks out of the stadium. He had to pay $250 for a "four hour" training on appropriate fan behavior, and then pass a test, in order to be permitted back in not only Lucas Oil, but any stadium in the NFL. I've always wondered what happened to knuckleheads who run onto the field at a baseball game, or get escorted out for being too drunk. This is probably the answer. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 (edited) If JJ works out for them, this makes sense. You are effectively paying Jefferson your QB's salary during JJ's rookie deal. But this is just so much money to devote to one player at one position when the team surrounding him has some glaring issues. The Vikings can't decide whether to blow it all up or keep trying to patch holes in the bow of the ship (Viking puns, get it?)... They'll likely be stuck in purgatory for it. Methinks they will regret this. Edited June 3, 2024 by MichiganCardinal Quote

Jimbo Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Has anyone read the ESPN draft class rankings of the 21rst century? It was based the careers of the players and not necessarily what they did for that specific team. It was also before 2021. So Holmes's drafts won't be considered and that means no Detroit drafts were in the top 12 (obviously). # 1 was the 2006 Saints. If they do this 5 or 10 years from now, I think we can safely assume the Lions will have multiple draft years in the top 12. Definitely 2021 and 2023 unless something happens with these players. 2022 is potential based on the career of Jamo. Quote

I got "banned" from Comerica Park one year when I had seats right next to the Tiger dugout. Alex Sanchez was on second base.......next player comes up and hits the ball to deep right center. Alex continues standing at second base, doesn't move, then realizes the ball is over the RF'ers head and then starts jogging to third and then stops halfway and runs back to second where the hitter is standing and he gets thrown out. Juan Samuel was the third base coach and he tried to get Sanchez' attention. Anyway, I let Sanchez have it on the way to the dugout. I didn't swear, I just said LOOK AT YOUR THIRD BASE COACH? YOU SHOULD HAVE SCORED! THIS IS WHY THIS TEAM IS TERRIBLE .........so they "banned" me. I was back a week later, they've never refused me (maybe the NFL has facial recognition software). I wondered that about the cup throwing guy in the Pistons game. Banned for life, but honestly, if he dressed a little different and didn't wear a hat, would they really recognize him? (by the way, he and Ron Artest are now friends) Banning this guy is ridiculous. He did nothing controversial. Maybe the NFL has decided that views of their stadiums are copyrighted or something. We've all seen bad fan behavior at NFL games and this ain't it. This ain't even close. Edited June 4, 2024 by Motor City Sonics Quote

Facial recognition is a stadium-by-stadium thing. Madison Square Garden has it and has been involved in ongoing litigation about it because they are using it to ban attorneys who are on the opposing side of litigation, for no reason other that they are on the other side of litigation. I do think there are probably more standards in place with the NFL because of their relationship with Ticketmaster. Given that every ticket goes through Ticketmaster, even when bought elsewhere, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a master list of banned individuals somewhere, that makes it at least more difficult for them to buy tickets. Probably comes more into play with season ticket holders. Quote

Any while this guy might be respectful about it the next one might not be. Quote

For facial recognition, especially at football games, a little bit of face paint and/or costume wouldn't be considered out of place at all and would mess up any facial recognition. For ticket master: Just use a VISA gift card and a fake name or have a friend or spouse buy the tickets. Instead of going as John Q. Public, put your name as J Quincy Public. I serious doubt they are putting in the effort to do a background check on any name that gets flagged as remotely similar to one on the banned list. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Can Sutton referred to his domestic violence as adversity. Quote
Tigeraholic1 Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 I have no problem how the Lions handled Sutton situation. I forget sometimes that we have a female owner and may look at these situations with zero tolerance and I am good with that as well. 2 Quote

Hongbit Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 (edited) This sounds like just a big misunderstanding. He was trying to help his girlfriend find her free spirit and thought that throwing her out a window would help. It could’ve easily happened to anyone. Edited June 6, 2024 by Hongbit Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 I'm ok with signing players with an edge and who may be considered "bad" in some way. But throwing your girlfriend out the window goes beyond being a Vontez Burfict type of player with an edge to him. Throwing your girlfriend out a window as Sutton allegedly did, knocking a women out as Ray Rice and Joe Mixon did, that should be a step too far for the league. If the NFL wanted to take domestic violence seriously Sutton would be suspended, pending an investigation. He would then be barred from football for life, without opportunity to collect his pension, if he was found guilty in a court of law. Quote

Guys caught with cannabis in their system get longer suspensions than people beating on women, fighting in clubs or gun charges? The NFL needs to start using common sense. Quote
Jason_R Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Maybe Tomiln felt OK bringing Sutton back thinking that nobody will want to ask him about anything other than Russell Wilson vs. Justin Fields. Quote
