MichiganCardinal Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Didn't the Dolphins forfeit a first round pick for tampering with Brady and Payton even though they didn't even sign either guy?? Not my circus, not my monkeys.... but doesn't seem exactly equitable. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 The Dolphins were colluding with Payton and Brady while they were still under contract with their teams. The Saints even denied the Dolphins permission to speak with Payton. What the Falcons did was contact Cousins during the tampering period when they are only allowed to contact his agent. 1 Quote

Makes sense here. Quote
holygoat Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Apparently ESPN doesn't have access to any photos of Buggs in a Chiefs uniform. 1 Quote

Not my circus, not my monkeys.... but doesn't seem exactly equitable. This just might be stupider than the "you can gamble, just not on team grounds" rule... While the policy permits clubs to engage with and negotiate all aspects of an NFL player contract with the certified agent of any prospective unrestricted free agent during the two-day negotiating period, any direct contact between the player and an employee or representative of the club is prohibited. This includes discussion of travel arrangements or other logistical matters, which the club acknowledges took place with regard to these three players. Am I missing something here? What is the logic behind this rule? Please let me know if you can think of some logical reason that completely negotiating a multi-million dollar deal with a person... excuse me... with the player's agent... and to come to a complete conclusion on absolutely everything and have it all finalized -- except for actually getting the signature on the contact -- is perfectly fine. But calling the dude up and saying: "Listen, there's a flight that leaves at 10 or one that leaves at 2pm... which would you rather take?" Well, dang-nabbit it that's just going too far in the tampering world! We can't have teams doing that!! You can't call up the player! Now, if you talked to the agent and asked the agent to ask the player this same question... well, there's nothing wrong with that, now is there. That's fine... but don't call him yourself! For the record: I'm not excusing the team for breaking the rules. Just like Jamo and the illegal gambling, if you know the rule you need to follow the rule, even if it's a stupid rule. I'm not saying the Falcons shouldn't be punished. I'm saying the rule is stupid and doesn't make any sense. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I can’t wait for the Jets to go 7-10 this year. Quote
buddha Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 the jets are a pretty talented team. the one thing holding them back is their qb. Quote

The question isn't whether Rodgers has a track record of great QB play. He OBVIOUSLY does. We were on the wrong end of that way too many times. The only questions for the Jets are if he's jumped the shark or not and if the rest of the team around him is good enough. Quote

It just feels to me like he’s eschewed the steps that make any other aging QB great in favor of hot takes and pseudoscience. If it works for him, more power to him. But I don’t think it will. Quote
buddha Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 i think people get wrapped up in not liking all the counter cultural, self-righteous bull**** of aaron rogers. he's one of the greatest qbs of all time. but he's 40 years old and coming off a significant injury. and i think he was starting to slide before then. maybe he has one more great year in him? i dont know. i dont think he has to be great for the jets to win. he just has to manage the game. the question is whether his ego will allow him to do that. Rodgers has the stats to be up there among the leaders but he only has one championship to show for it. And his anti-vax and anti-science attitudes eliminates him from being one of the greatest. Quarterbacks are supposed to be leaders and he's seriously lacking in leadership. Hopefully, not too many children look up to him, I wouldn't want my child to consider him a role model. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I too am a skeptical of Rodgers. Between his age, coming off a serious injury and the fact that last season he played he was mediocre at best. OTOH he was the MVP in 21 and 22 so he isn't THAT far removed from elite play but he is at that age and point where he could easily fall off a cliff like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and several other athletes not named Tom Brady did. I don't like him because of the anti-science self-righteous BS. I don't believe in him because of everything else you said. I also wouldn't be surprised if his rushing recovery last year to get back in time for the playoffs set him back in his recovery. A torn Achilles is effectively the worst injury you could possibly suffer as an athlete. You don't just rush recovery to come back four months later. Quote

My completely cynical side says all the discussion of quick recovery, "I intend to play this year" talk at the time was done more to feed his need to he seen and heard, than his legitimate belief he would heal that fast, assuming there was some sort of atypical treatment he was undergoing. I don't think that was ever a realistic possibility. It obviously proved out he was not able to return last year. It will be very interesting to see this year, assuming he stays healthy. Quote

I'm skeptical he ever would have returned last year, even if there was a miraculous run. But the Jets did activate his practice window, and I don't think they would do that solely to appease him..... OK, maybe they would do that.... I do think he was pushing it though, and he did do that "speed bridge" procedure that was designed to have him return much quicker than normal. FWIW, Kirk Cousins did not get the speed bridge procedure done when he tore his Achilles. At the end of the day he's a 40-year-old dude. And 40-year-old dudes don't just jump back up from a catastrophic injury in the same way 20-year-old kids often can. The standard recovery time from an Achilles usually wouldn't even guarantee a week one return this year. He's an athlete, but he's not in the best shape of his life, and there were already signs that his best days were behind him in 2022. He threw for the fewest amount of yards in any complete season in his career and the most picks since his rookie year. If you're a believer in QBR, that was also a career low. Even healthy, I wouldn't be confident if I was a Jets fan that we were getting the 2021 MVP as opposed to 2022 mediocrity. Quote

I think that's legit. There were a few guys signed...talented yes as they were NFL players, but yes to appease him...give him all the resources HE wants. And we know practice is far from playing and I would be very surprised if, even in his red jersey, he actually faced 'game conditions' in practice. He is a prima-donna. I'm not rooting for him, but it will be all over the NFL, so I need to accept another year of him. Quote

buddha Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 every class action is like that. lawyers always get paid, everyone else doesnt get that much per person. most class actions are ridiculous, you only see the ones in the news that involve big companies. my favorite was working on the one were a blind guy sued red box for not having braille on its vending machines renting movies...that he couldnt see. it didnt go anywhere. guy was a professional class action plaintiff. or the "coconut oil made me fat" class action. that one was fun too.
