Hongbit Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 Wasn’t super excited for this season of DTS. The last few seasons have been just ok. I’ve got to say the first three episodes this season have been fantastic. Quote
Hongbit Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 DTS shows how big of a gamble Toto is making giving Kimi Antonelli a seat at age 18. Toto thinks he’s next great one and this will either turn out to be brilliant or a disaster. I don’t see much middle ground seeing as he passed up on many more experienced drivers. Quote
Deleterious Posted March 8 Posted March 8 You have to wonder if that is Merc waiving the white flag until the new regulations in 2026. I watched a little of the first episode and Lewis made comments that he felt Mercedes can't win this year. Quote
Hongbit Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 (edited) I think he’s getting behind George as his long term guy or at least wants to see how handles that role. Putting a green Antonelli in makes Russell the unquestioned #1. It wouldn’t have been quite as clear had he gone with a Sainz, Perez, or even back to Bottas. George’s car got better at the end last year while Lewis’s didnt. I can see it going either way for Merc. Either fighting 3-4 or dropping way down and white flagging it. Expand Sainz is the only one of that group you listed that would be a #1 driver. Bottas has proven when he was with merc that he isn’t even a good second F1 driver. Flailing away a Sauber didn’t do him any good. I’m really surprised Merc picked him up as a reserve. Checo’s performance the last couple years made his stock drop to about nothing. I do agree that they are taking a chance with Antonelli but it might pay off and he could quickly jump over George and be the top driver on the team. Quote

Expand Bottas is definitely a #2 but he’s a veteran that may not fall in line as easily behind a younger, cockier George than a greenhorn like Kimi A. Checo lost his confidence last year. It happens a lot. He’s still a solid option and will definitely be back in F1 at some point (especially if Carlos Slim is backing him). End of the day, as much as fans harp about drivers, success is still 90% about the car. Quote

Some people have said the Bulls are designed for Max and everyone else has a hard time driving them. I don’t know if that is true or not but if it is I wonder what Max likes in a car that nobody else can get a handle on. I’m looking forward to the first race to see how Lewis does in the red cars and what kind of battle he and Charles will have. Quote
Hongbit Posted March 13 Author Posted March 13 The wait is over. P1 from Melbourne at 9:35 tonight. Quote

Deleterious Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Pretty impressed with McLaren. Not only do they have a great car but they might have the best #2 driver on the grid. Ferrari is technically in that discussion too. But it doesn't matter since it appears they built another $600 million heap. Williams has to be thrilled with those results. Quote
Hongbit Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 I’m sure it was mainly gamesmanship by Horner but when asked in DTS which McLaren driver would he take if given the choice and he immediately said Oscar. Racing Bulls have to feel happy as well. Two cars in the top 11. Not even their big brother can claim that. Quote
Deleterious Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Oscar was on the last year of his deal before he signed that extension a few weeks ago. So yeah, probably some gamesmanship by Horner. Or he wants to send lewd texts to Oscar's mom. Quote
Deleterious Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Sounds like it is raining pretty hard right now. Forecast looks like sprinkles to start the race and clearing up as the race goes on. A lot of rookies out there for a race that is probably starting on intermediates. Quote
Hongbit Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 It was already going to be sketchy if I was staying up to watch live. A delay will make the decision easy. Quote
Hongbit Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 Looks like it’s ready to go on time. Wet and windy conditions are going to make this one crazy. Quote
Deleterious Posted March 16 Posted March 16 People will dog Ferrari for the bad strategy. But they were not winning that race without trying something. Going the opposite way from the field on tires was the right call IMO. 1 Quote
Toddwert Posted March 16 Posted March 16 (edited) racing in rain makes F1 so much more interest then NASCAR and Indy maybe they should take note.....anthony Hamilton is such a class act Edited March 16 by Toddwert Quote

Expand true but if your gonna do something bold dont do it halfway and all the sudden change direction... at the end of the day how many spots did they lose? Quote
Hongbit Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 They gambled the rain wouldn’t get worse and it did. Had they been right it was probably going to get them a 1-2 finish. There comes a point when you’re running slicks on a wet track where you either have to slow down to a crawl or crash the car into a wall at high speed. Quote
Deleterious Posted March 16 Posted March 16 They rescinded his 5-second penalty after reviewing it. So he bumped back up to 4th. Quote
