Motor City Sonics
I don't know, man. If they keep dishing out 5 1/2 over/under on NHL games, I'll keep winning. It's like a crazy loophole. I've been making money on this every week. I don't win every time, but I do enough to make a weekly profit. Then they give you the free bet tokens..............that's when I bet the higher odds. I hit about once every four times, but there is zero risk. Took a $5 free bet and turned it into $30 last night (thanks to Montreal's Rem Pitlick, who scored with :43 second left). I never bet more than $10 unless it's a major event like Kentucky Derby or Super Bowl. It's pretty easy, actually.

oblong
The guy I share my tickets with is kind of an old school person. No smartphone. Barely uses his computer. He moved from a desk job to one on the counter, he's 63 and done with stress, he loves this. He has had multiple heart attacks over the years nad finally quit smoking before the pandemic. He uses his smokes money on gambling. Wagers about $100 a day over several bets. He loves it. He says it gives him purpose and something to look forward to. last time I talked he said he's up about 10K overall in the time he's been doing it, about a year. He documents and does everything properly for tax purposes.

Well since the beginning of pro football season I am up over $400. This is $10 at a time. I think I am winning at about a 60-65% rate making small, conservative bets and hitting big on 2 out of 6 football parlays. Just got keep betting small. I won't bet at the start of the hockey playoffs because the goal totals always go down and I am going to have to "practice bet" at the start of baseball because we really have no idea how the start of the season is going to go with a shorter spring training. They gave me free NBA tokens a couple of times. The Pistons covered both times. They've been playing a lot better. Cade's the real deal. If they get him the right running partner in the draft, they could be interesting. Marvin Bagley was a hell of a find by Troy Weaver. Got to keep it small. If I start betting more than $10 or $20, I'll start losing.

I hope the run continues but if you start to have a turn of bad luck remember this post.

Motor City Sonics
Another parlay.........Two NHL games with an over/under of 5.5. Both came through on the over. 5.5 is the key. Insane run......
Motor City Sonics
The incredible streak ended last night when the Rangers and Islanders scored only 3 times. Oh well. We start all over after cashing out 3 times and still playing with their money.
chasfh
Best thing that ever happened to me is that when I gambled for the first time on penny-ante poker when i was in grade school, I lost all the time. That cured me of any desire to pursue gambling as a pastime. Since then, every time I have dipped my toe into betting waters, I’ve gotten beat, and then I’m done with it for years. Keeps my money in my pocket. That said, I do run several pools: a college football bowl pools, a March madness squares pool, and a 13-run baseball pool. I run them because, frankly, I enjoy managing the process. My reward for running these is that peculiar kind of fun, plus I get a free entry funded by the pot. I never buy any extra entires. And I never win. Good example: I’ve run March madness squares for five years, 63 games each tourney, 315 games in total. By the law of averages I should have hit three games by now. Nope. Zilch. This year my entry has the losing team ending in a 4. First day, yesterday, 16 games, no losing teams ended in 4, but seven different games had the losing team end in a 3. The same people who play my pools win every year—they practically make a second income off my pools. I’m forever cutting the same people Zelle payments or checks. Some people are just lucky like that. I’m just not. Suits me fine.
CMRivdogs
I learned my lessons early. In 7th grade, being the lone "Yankee" in my new school I bet about $10 on the Yankees beating the Cardinals in the 1964 World Series. Then there was the $50 bet with a friend when the "Bet you can't eat just one" Frito commercial came out. I lasted about 6 months before my pqrentw found out attempted to sabotage my efforts. We agreed to call off the bet.
oblong
For me it's similar. When I played poker with friends it wasn't to make money. It was just to be away from the women and drinking/smoking/goofing off. I had a crown royal bag full of quarters and the winnings went in there. Then at some point I used those quarters in the machine at Meijer. For casinos the first time I went was in 1996 or 97... when Windsor was on a boat. I walked up to two machines, picked one on the right and almost immediately someone played the one on the left. The left won $500. I was in college and had just paid my tuition bill and had the thought "If I picked that one my tuition is paid for". It left a sour taste. I still go to vegas and will play the slots but thats just for fun. I budget some money for us to play around on those before we head up to the room for the night. It's not to win. It's just a way to have a drink and kill time. I'll never be one of those "sit at the table" guys.
MichiganCardinal
I will participate in bracket challenges and fantasy football with friends, but I think the mass commercialization and availability of sports betting and online gambling will be looked on extremely poorly in the next 10-20+ years. Potentially the next global health crisis. Too many people are too easily influenced and hooked. As opposed to making a conscious choice to enter a casino, to go to an ATM, to interact with a cashier, it's just too easy to just keep using that credit card in the dark bedroom or office without any realization for the real impacts you're having. Until you can't afford gas or groceries the next day, or are paying $100s in interest fees. Then the occasional win becomes an opioid-like high, and there is a constant chase, while your thousands of dollars line the pockets of billionaires. It's the wild west right now. The free bets and credits for things that happen every game are just capitalizing on the chase of the high. The radio reads on 97.1 make me sick sometimes, with the books paying to push certain lines.

Related to this: it was bad enough when every sports game had at least one gambling commerical every single break pushing you to bet on games. Now I'm starting to see them during regular (non-sports) programming. I saw a Draft Kings commercial on the WGN Noon News. Who watches the WGN Noon News? I gotta believe it indexes very high for senior citizens on fixed incomes. Why let them keep their money when they can gamble it into the pockets of the Ilitches and the Ricketts and the Krafts all the rest of those team owners, I suppose. The same reason the commercials for Fox 2 here in the morning are lawyers and "online schools". Preying on the vulnerable. I really wonder how different society would be if not for state lotteries. I go into my gas station a lot just go get snacks and teas as a means to get out and see people and it's just a parade of people buying those tickets and the Mega Millions stuff. It's a fine line between the old guy who has money and this a fun thing for him to do during the day vs the guy scraping buy dropping 1/4 of his disposable income and not realizing it because he "won $200 2 weeks ago.." Motor City Sonics
I was in Florida visiting in a friend and we were going to a Tigers ST game in Lakeland and it was rainy and 50 and they called the game. We wound up going to the only casino in the area and I sat down to play poker with my friends and 3 or 4 others. I actually won 2 of the first 3 hands. Turned $60 into $120 and got up and left. My friends said "Already?". I said I won, I'm done, have a good time fellas, I'm getting a steak. I'm not a good poker player, just had some luck, I didn't want to mess with it. A couple of the regular's groused about me being an amateur or some such thing. I didn't say anything to them, but F**k them, I beat them, let them cry about it. With the online thing, I started with $10, won a straight bet the first time then bet $10 on a four or five leg parlay in football and it hit for over $100. Since then, every time I hit $130, I drop $100 into the bank and start over again with $30. I have cashed out $300 since the NFL season, all with $10 bets or the free tokens they give me. I bet $50 on the Super Bowl because it was the Super Bowl and I won because Cincinnati covered. I have not used anything more than my original $10, the rest is their money. What's the problem? I'll probably bet $50 on the Kentucky Derby, because why not? I do know guys that bet 3 and four figures almost every day and they are miserable. I'm not gonna get an ulcer over $10. I thought about betting the over on the Wings yesterday but I didn't, They decided to play defense. Nick Leddy must really suck............ Deleterious
Most professional gamblers don't make the majority of their money strictly on knowing who the better team is/isn't. The find exploits like listed above and hammer them until books fix them. A guy named Spanky hosts a gambling podcast. He told a story of finding an exploit before the internet existed. Books in AC were not taking into account weather for MLB O/U lines. So his group had someone at each MLB stadium and all they did was call in with the wind report. If it was blowing out that day, they took the over. Blowing in and they took the under. He said they made a fortune until the books caught on and fixed it.
