The irony of conservatives going after Hunter for owning a gun.

Don Jr. might want to think about his own ownership of firearms if he's going to show up on podcasts with white powder all over him.

I have no spin for this.  It sucks for Hunter and Joe and their families.   He was an addict.  I've called the police on my own siblings who were out of control users who were a danger to themselves and others.

Before anyone piles on  - they should keep in mind that most families in this country have dealt with a member who had substance abuse or addiction issues.  Attacking him for that is an attack on most families.     It sets an example.  He broke the law and there are consequences.  Dealing with them and putting them behind you is the way to handle it.

The Right has been salivating over this guy for years and the President just said (basically) Yeah, he screwed up, he has to deal with it.  He's clean now and I'm proud of him, I love him and I'll be there when it's over.     Gee, that sounds more Jesus-y than anything a Repugnantcan has said since Ronald Regan came along.    Take their ****ing ammunition away.

Now it becomes this -  If he isn't sentenced to the harshest possible sentence, they'll start screaming about things being rigged,  even though in most cases, when someone broke the law as an addict, but has since turned their life around, they are usually given a sentence on the lighter side.   If that happens here, the Repugnantcans will lose their minds.

I wouldn't put it past Biden to ignore the political side of this and strictly deal with this as a parent who loves his son, as he's not been afraid to express, but politically it doesn't hurt him to see a family deal with someone who's got addiction.  Nearly every family is touched by it and if the right wants to make fun of that then they do it a their own peril, especially in the red part of the country because I'd bet the addiction numbers are higher in rural than urban.

Hunter was a crack addict (and an alcoholic) when he said he was not

Prosecutors said that Hunter Biden lied on the federal form every gun purchaser is required to fill out when he declared that he was not using or addicted to illegal drugs.

And, btw, hoping that this Menendez jury gets it right.  Don’t know how he was able to duck Justice last time, except to say perhaps the prosecution didn’t dot all their i’s & cross all their t’s.  I was infuriated when he got reelected. I don’t know how people pulled that lever for him last time.  And him claiming his “innocence”… ummm.  No. Not”innocent”, just not found guilty.

This time, I believe he’ll be found guilty of all charges, and I hope they lock him up and throw away the key.

edit to add: this son of a bitch has the nerve to say now that for this next election he will run as an Independent.
The fact that he would do that and totally screw the Democratic candidate only compounds my extreme disgust for this guy. He’s criminal.

I had no idea that was a thing. Unless you are a felon I don’t see how that is illegal.

I have no problem with barriers to firearms ownership based on your mental state and stability.  The least thing we need is to have firearms ownership defined down even further than it already is.

Personal liability Insurance requirements seem like a really sane thing to enact.

and that is what drives them crazy.

But they will try to spin this as "well if the son of the POTUS is a felon then it's no big deal if the President is a felon"

I agree with your last part. But honestly, I don't think Joe not pardoning Hunter is driving them crazy. I think they expect that of Joe. Those at Fox News, at least, know Biden enough that they would be genuinely surprised if he acted out like Trump would. Instead, their simple strategy will be to willfully ignore that part of the story, which shouldn't be hard to pull off since rank and file viewers aren't going to question them about it, anyway.
