Another one of those where you stand politically tests. Mine seemed close.

Quote

The New Liberal Party is the professional-class establishment wing of the Democratic Party. Members are cosmopolitan in their social and racial views but more pro-business and more likely to see the wealthy as innovators.

Its potential leaders include Pete Buttigieg, Cory Booker, Eric Garcetti and Beto O’Rourke. Based on data from the Democracy Fund’s VOTER survey, this party would be the best fit for about 26 percent of the electorate.

I don't want to sign in/create an account, but I already know that even though I would have been considered a mainstream Democrat in the 70s, I'd be labeled as far left today.

I think it's kind of a dumb idea to put political signs in your business window or property.      There's a used car dealership near me with Trump signs all over the place.   I can guarantee you that if I need a used car it won't be from him.

And as Rob put it with that restaurant that Trump came to in Dearborn.   It's someplace I went once and thought it was overpriced (and the hours were weird to me), but not only is the owner a Trumper, he's a homophobe too.     Don't need people like that in my life.      I have lost friendships over this kind of thing in recent years, but I just don't want to associate with people so hateful.    I have one friend who is constantly going off about trans people on Facebook and I constantly ask how does it really affect his life?   He doesn't like it, but how does it really affect his life?   Any mention of the Bible will get a response of "do we really want to talk about YOUR history in any Biblical terms?      Don't like Transfolk?  Okay, don't hang out with them.  Problem solved.    He's still my friend because we've been through too much, but why does it matter?   Never lived his life in any religious manner, why should anyone else?

There's an ice cream truck that goes around here decked in Trump gear. To paraphrase Michael Jordan, "People with brains buy ice cream too."

My wife and I had our driveway replaced this year.  I had a few calls out to contractors for quotes.  One agreed to meet me at my house at 4:00.  At 3:45, I get a semi angered call asking where I was.  I was about 3 minutes from home, told him I would be home before the agreed to time, but if he wanted to start measuring stuff feel free to do so.  So I get home, and see an idling diesel pick up in front of my yard and a red hatted dude walking off the lengths.  Well, sure, I thought to myself there wasn’t any way that hat was a Cincy Reds or Ohio State hat.  Of course, it was a dunce cap.  So I just let him waste his time, listened to him prattle off about he was better than any other contractor, wished him a good day, and tossed his estimate.

you know who have some radical notions?  after hours plumbers.  For whatever reason everytime I had to call one they share some story about how vaccines cause DNA damage or other weird stuff that tends toward the racist or fringe.

Pretty sure I shared this story before but it wasn't a political sign (per se), but my Aunt (black) came home to a fence contractor setting up a quote for my Uncle.  The second they left, my Aunt tells my uncle to throw away the quote.  I can't remember the exact name but it was something like Klein, Klein, and Knight, with 3 large prominent K's in the logo.

Like Bowfinger.  If the script's amount of K's can be divided into 3, Kit Ramsey wouldn't do the movie.     LOL.

I hate to say it, but IF Trump wins, Musks purchase of Twitter may have been his best investment yet. He will become one of the most powerful people in the world for the low low price of 44B.

that might be considered a step down for him.  I never ever thought we'd see a successful white mayor in Detroit again but he wielded his skills learned under the McNamara machine.  Wayne County Politics is very lucrative for some people.   It's a legalized racket.  I just had dinner with a friend last night who quit the county earlier this year after 10 years. He didn't want to play the game but to get any kind of advancement in that organization requires a lot of backslapping and working on the right people's campaigns, etc.  You don't just go to work and do a job.  It's all political.

Oklahoma Gov. Sitt: "We need more prayer in public meetings."

Amy Hardy-McAdams, a pagan priestess: "Okay!"

Gov. Sitt: "NOT LIKE THAT, SATAN."

Always remember: When the (religious) right says "religion" they mean THEIR religion, because other religions "aren't real" and creations of the devil.

even with Christians.... which one?   There isn't just a Bible.  There's a catholic bible that contains books not in a "protestant" Bible.  And Protestants can't figure out which translation is best either.

I believe the preferred on is the fake leather bound Trump Bible printed in China.

I have a "friend" on the Dupage County, Il Board of Supervisors. One of her first acts when she was elected a few years ago was to make sure all religious demonations were represented in the leading of the opening prayer. It caused a bit of a stir at the time

two great articles ($) in Atlantic

about why we have food deserts in inner cities and rural towns

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/12/food-deserts-robinson-patman/680765/

The problem of food deserts will not be solved without the rediscovery of the Robinson-Patman Act. Requiring a level pricing playing field would restore local retailers’ ability to compete. This would provide immediate relief to entrepreneurs who have recently opened grocery stores in food deserts, only to find that their inability to buy on the same terms as Walmart and Dollar General makes survival difficult. With local grocery stores back on the scene in these neighborhoods, chain supermarkets may well return, too, lured by a force far more powerful than tax breaks: competition.

and the effect of MAGA convincing people that Dems are focused on trans rights - when it reality it is MAGA that is obsessed with trans people

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2024/11/democrats-defined-progressive-issues/680810/

By far the most notable way that Democrats are misperceived relates to what our survey referred to as “LGBT/ transgender policy.” Although this was not a major priority for Democratic voters in reality—it ranked 14th—our survey respondents listed it as Democrats’ second-highest priority. This effect was especially dramatic among Republicans—56 percent listed the issue among Democrats’ top three priorities, compared with just 8 percent who listed inflation—but nearly every major demographic group made a version of the same mistake.

That's because we all let Trump define it that way for us.

I just want to know what bathroom Bruce Jenner used when he visited Trump and Musk in Florida recently. I'm sure no one raised a stink when he used the women's room of the VIP dining area.

Mike Duggan is going to run for Governor in 2026.... as an independent.  That's interesting.

Guess he feels like can shed any of the lingering stain/resentment the rest of the state still has towards Detroit.  He's part of the McNamara machine so it will be fun to watch it play out.  Seems to me like they would just split the vote and pave the way for a unified GOP party to win 40-30=30 ish.
