you can turn off location services on an IOS/MACOS device. You would think that would make a difference, but maybe not....Haven't tried it.

Maybe it's different now, but I tried that a few years ago specifically to try to get past the local blackout and it didn't work. Maybe they changed it, or maybe I did it wrong back then.

After the post above, it occurred to me to research this issue on this service called "Googol" (sp?), and here's what I just found.

https://thevpn.guru/best-mlb-tv-vpn-bypass-at-bat-blackouts#ios

Is It Possible to Watch Blackout Games on iOS (iPhone/iPad)?

Due to the fact the MLB at Bat app on iPhone and iPad devices use location services, you will not be able to bypass MLB blackout restrictions on either of these platforms. If you do turn off location services, the MLB at Bat will not function.

Can I Bypass MLB.TV Blackouts on Android?

As is the case with iOS devices, the MLB.tv app on Android-based phones and tablets uses a combination of location services and GPS to determine your current location. Thus, you cannot bypass MLB blackout restrictions on Android, even when using VPN.

We have a few PCs but the rest of our devices are ios. Guess MLB isn't going to get my money. It's short-sighted for MLB to have a blackout outside of 100 miles from the stadium.

And they wonder why they have issues with growing the game.

I liove 4 hours from detroit, I cannot get Bally at my home due to cable restrictions. I bought The MLB TV app and was so stoked.....I have seen 1 game so far through the app. Pure Garbage.  A local restriction should not be enacted when you are purchasing directly from MLB.

Garbage!

At the start of last year i could get around the blackout on my Samsung galaxy by turning off location services but sometimes early in the season they got wise to that. I've never thought of putting the vpn on my router, or know how. Generally my VPN through surfshark slows down my subpar internet to the pont that its intermittently unusable so that may not be a practical option. At least im in MN so I'm only blacked out 19 games a year, bastards!

Also, the app and platform BLOWS. Ive been using (more like putting up with) mlb.tv for almost 10 years. Getting audio to sync with streams is troublesome and ive all sorts of freezing issues. I've submitted numerous support tickets and never gotten a reply. NEW THIS YEAR, the screen on my phone has to be on when listening to the radio broadcast otherwise it pauses. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE, the app doesn't override the screen timeout so you have to tap the screen every 10 minutes to keep the stream from pausing.

Basically, mlb is doing the least possible to operate and support a streaming service. Its embarrassing for 2022, I keep expecting it to be better at the beginning of each season and its always just as buggy as before. I guess its nothing new that the league is 15 years behind the times.

Rant over

WTP, you can do what I do which is buy Direct TV online for $60/month, includes Bally Sports and I can watch it on my phone, PC, and so on.  No blackouts ever.

The reality is that he usually has an OPS of around .700 in 250 at bats doing most of the damage against LHP.  That's what he'll probably do this year too.

Looks to me like he has  developed a new swing, the propellerheads might have to revise their numbers?

It's be interesting to see how it plays out  once Riley Green is back in the picture. Last season I would have guessed that Victor was going to be the one to take it in the shorts. Now I'm not so sure. With both Meadows and Grossman as fixtures.....Hill, Baddoo, or Reyes  are bound to be a casualty.

I'm thinking now that Hill has the short straw.

This is what I had to do and is really the only option for cord cutters. I think I had to pay $85 for the package that included BSD. It’s really the only streaming option here since YouTubeTV, Hulu, and Sling don’t carry it.

The record function on DirectTV is really idiosyncratic though - it would be too long to describe all the weird things it does, but bottom line it's too often not what you expect.

RSNs do blackouts to protect their investment, and because they pay a shit-ton of money for the rights, Baseball is totally on board with the idea.

RSNs draw their revenue from both advertisers and from getting a cut of subscription fees. RSNs allow MLB.tv to air their games out of market games because RSNs realize no revenue from outside their market anyway, but allowing streaming within the market cannibalizes their investment. The idea, of course, is to get you to pony up the fee to get the RSN from your local provider, or from a streaming service that offers their channel. They don't want people to bypass that and see their games for free, since that would undermine the entire point of paying the humongous rights fee they paid the team for the games. Thus, the blackout.

It's not dumb that there is a black out per se, it's dumb that you can't buy your way out of if you want the package of all the games from MLB and your local team. You should be able to buy MLB TV with something like a $3-5 month upcharge and have it include your local team. Everyone could still get paid that way, but MLB and the RSN's are too siloed to work that out. You shouldn't have to pay DirectTV for HSN and 100 channels of other crap just so they can pass that same RSN upcharge to Bally when MLB could do that themselves.

Yeah, I don't know. I'm just spitballing on this one, based on my long-past experience in the business, but maybe that part has to do with carriage deals RSNs like Bally have with various cable companies. Maybe they just can't sell it direct because that would violate the basic agreement they have not only with major like Comcast, Spectrum, WOW et al, but also with entities like ATI in Kalkaska, or Northside in iron Mountain, or Sunrise Cable in Onaway, or hundreds of other small town cable companies that also depend on the attraction that is Tiger games on Bally Sports to keep their subscriber numbers high enough to stay in business. Allow MLB.tv to sell local games, and their businesses are put in jeopardy as well, and it's probably just too complicated to properly and fairly compensate all the local cable companies for that loss.

Please understand I too would like blackouts to go away. I'm simply trying to explain the business angle of why the local blackout is in place and why they do not want to allow anything to bypass that.

I don’t have access to the data anymore but was wondering if someone here could figure something out

What is the winning % when a team outhits the other team?

In 111,223 games spanning 1970 through 2020, the team that got more hits won 79,580 times, for a winning percentage of .715.
